I haven't updated this website in over a year, sorry.
Modding Gorilla Tag is very simple! Here are a few videos to help you out, or you can follow the step by step guide below!
When modding Gorilla Tag, you want to make sure you have the correct hardware (device) to run Gorilla Tag. Unfortuneatly, you cannot mod Gorilla Tag on standalone quest, you need to use PCVR. You also need a windows pc, an Apple computer will not work!
(Linux doesnt work either, but linux sucks anyways lol)
Here are the minimum requirements listed on Gorilla Tag's steam page:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 (Windows 11 works too)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 300 MB available space
Sound Card: n/a
VR Support: SteamVR or Oculus PC
Additional Notes: This runs on a Quest, so it should probably run on any reasonable computer that can run Oculus or SteamVR at all that isn't literally a toaster
To mod Gorilla Tag, you need to either have Steam VR or the Oculus App (PC only, not the oculus app on your phone)
I, along with many other PCVR Gorilla Tag players, prefer to use SteamVR over Oculus App, because the Oculus app is very buggy. So in this Guide, I will be explaining the steps to mod Gorilla Tag on SteamVR.
You can install SteamVR by clicking THIS LINK
Once you install Steam, you will have to make a 20$ purchase to obtain Gorilla Tag (sadly)
Once you have done all this, you are ready to start modding!
MonkeModManager is a great tool if you are trying to mod Gorilla Tag. It does most of the work with setting up mod files for you. You can download MonkeModManager by clicking THIS LINK (It's free, don't worry!)
Once you have Monke Mod Manager, click the windows key, or the windows button in the bottom left corner, and type in MonkeModManager, then click enter. Or, you could open up your files app and go to the downloads tab, and double click MonkeModManager there.
Once you open up MonkeModManager (I will refer to MonkeModManager as MMM in the future) Click all the checkboxes in the following picture:
DO NOT CLICK ANY OTHER CHECKBOXES THAN IN THIS IMAGE!!!
Once you have clicked those three checkboxes, you can click the "Install/Update" button in the bottom right corner.
Now, click the "Utillities" tab at the top of MMM, and click "Bepinex Folder"
Once you have done that, you should see a file location open up that looks like this:
Double Click "Plugins" and your folder should look like this:
You also need something called Utilla, because most mods rely on it to funtion properly. To download Utilla, you can click THIS LINK, then click the download button in top right corner. You will get a warning somewhat like the warning below, just click Download unverified file, or the Keep File button, or whatever shows up.
Now go to your downloads folder, and copy the newly downloaded utilla file by clicking it once, and clicking CTRL + C. Then go back to MMM and repeat the following process:
Click the "Utillities" tab at the top of MMM, and click "Bepinex Folder"
Once you have done that, you should see a file location open up that looks like this:
Double Click "Plugins" and your folder should look like this:
Now click CTRL + V and your folder should change to something like this:
Now for the fun part, adding mods! Now, keep in mind, not all mods are compatible, and mods tend to go out of date as Gorilla Tag goes into new updates, so you have to keep searching for new mods throughout your modding journey. In this Guide i will provide you with a mod menu, and camera mod that works (As of 12/19/2023)
If you know what you are doing, and want to try your own mods out that arent included in this Guide, feel free to do so, but your game may break or the mods might not work.
Now, lets download the mods you'll need. Click the buttons below and go through the same process as downloading the mods as you did with utilla earlier.
Now, do the same thing as earlier with the Utilla file. Copy each file from downloads, and paste it in your plugins folder, with the utilla file.
Once you are finished, your plugins folder should look like this:
Go jump into game and have fun with your new mods! Be sure to use modded lobbys to avoid getting banned. To use a modded lobby, go to the gamemode switcher, and you will find some left and right arrows. Click the right arrow and the gamemodes will switch to modded versions of normal gamemodes. Use these mods at your own risk. Enjoy!
