WITH JESUS IN THE MORNING
Chosen Against the Tide
Begin this day with Jesus’ invitation to live differently, with an open heart. "You are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world’" (Jn 15:18–21). Ask Him to choose you to love as He does—to love with inner freedom, without retaliation, without following the loParaclete, Faithful Guide Today, rely on the promise of the Lord Jesus: He will not leave you without help. “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete” (Jn 14:15–21). Let your love for Him be evident in what you choose and in what you care for. Ask Him to send His Spirit to remind you of His Word when haste carries you away, and so that your freedom does not become self-indulgence. Ask that the Paraclete may teach you the simplicity of sustenance, the rejection of waste, and how to make room for those in need. Place your tasks, your encounters, and your decisions in His hands, asking that they may be consistent with His love. Amen.
WITH JESUS DURING THE DAY
Shop Consciously
This afternoon, bring before the Lord the way you shop, store, and throw food away, and the cries of those who do not have enough. Benedict reminded us that “Shopping is always a moral act, not just an economic one.” In light of these words, pray for the intention for May: quality food for all and an end to waste. Ask Him to straighten out your habits, so that you do not buy on impulse or treat bread as something disposable. Today, resolve to review what is already at home and prepare what is necessary, carefully preserving the rest so that it is not wasted. Conclude with the monthly prayer. Amen.
WITH JESUS IN THE NIGHT
Examination with the Spirit
With night now falling, lay before the Father what you have experienced today. Thank Him for what you have received and for the people who were with you. Invoke the Holy Spirit to gently show you where you were faithful and where you strayed. Did you cherish your gifts, or were you negligent? Did your treatment of others reflect love or impatience? Ask His forgiveness for what you did wrong and for what you failed to do. Entrust to His mercy those who went hungry today and those who work to ensure food reaches them. Ask for the gift to choose more wisely and to share more willingly. In silence, pray the Our Father...Amen.
