Many who grew up in Phoenix, Arizona during the 1970's still remember elements of the local scene's unique milieu — Razz Revue in local record stores and head shops, the mellifluous voice of Bill Compton on KDKB radio, and the irreverent, free-form radio comedy of Wonderful Russ (aka Russ Shaw).
For too short a time, those three creative forces came together for the making of the Razz radio and TV shows.
Sadly, that collaboration abruptly ended when Bill Compton died in a tragic car accident on June 21, 1977. It was five days before the repeat airing of the TV show.
The Razz lost steam after Bill's death. No more magazines were published and the radio show remained uncompleted.
As for the TV show, Bob Boze Bell took a copy of the show to a Tucson TV station to see if they might air it. After the visit, Boze reported that program director who watched the program never even cracked a smile.
Needless to say, the TV show never went anywhere . . . until now.
