Ethos are spirit orbs that mainly takes a form of a weapon and leech onto a persons strength. They don't have genders and are pretty much an entity. Unlike Rayth, it can shapeshift, easier to maintain, and are visible. To maintain it, the Ethos and the host must have a strong bond in order to compliment each other, otherwise, the Ethos will slowly kill the host. How do they cling themselves to a host? Most of the time, they sneak into things like jewelry, food, products, etc. Some leech onto you out of the blue but that's uncommon since it's difficult to find a lone Ethos running around, or in general since they can't produce offsprings.
Ethos are usually weapons that are visible, can communicate, easier to maintain, can shapeshift, and fuse together with their host. Each Ethos have their own personality.
Rayth can't shapeshift, very hostile, difficult to see or just impossible to some people, and each rayth have different powers for each person. They don't have personalites and have no form of communication.
Back then, they used to have a monterous form before eventually, it was sealed off. (With the exception of Razzle having a human form). There orb and weapon form can vary from colors, eyes, to species and they have small elements to their apperences. (I.E: Cil's horns and isopods antennaes.) What they all have in common is the glow in both weapon and orb form.
Ethos aren't evil beings, they just need someone to be around with but because of their relationships, they end up accidentally hurting their host. Ethos’ bonds aren’t just black and white, theres a shade of grays to it. Most Ethos are pretty tough with their affection and appreciate. After all, they’re stuck with you until your death so they’ll cling to you. Maybe they’re secretly the friend we all need in our life.
They start off as shapeless flames made out of pure energy. They don't shapeshift their appearence until they matured. They originally did not have a weapon form for centuries until a group of scientist wanted to create more powerful weapons, so they captured every ethos they could find and conducted their experiment. While the experiment was a success, there were a few problems. In their weapon form, they couldn't move their body and they slowly begin to disintegrate. To convocate this, they gave them the ability to merge into people's souls and feed on their strength, allowing them to shapeshift to look like their host. On some occasions, Ethos were fused to a persons dying soul to keep them alive. Although they became immortal, they aren't codependent on their host, allowing them to shapeshift their limbs into weapons. As long as they are connected to a host, they can't die.
