Ray Montie - What Does Success Mean To You? Success is a subjective state or term of satisfaction. You can even define success as being the opposite of failure. The standards for success are dependent upon a given observer or belief system, and can be relative to an individual, a culture or time period. A series of failures can make it seem like you are on the verge of great success. Success can be a marathon, a sprint, a race or a series of hurdles.
Only those who have experienced success and know what it is can understand the meaning of it. No one else can know what you're looking for in a successful life. So, how do we know when success has been reached? By watching yourself, Ambit Energy National Consultant Seth Godin says "I feel like I've been more successful than I ever was before."
One of the main reasons why Americans view success so differently is because we were brought up to have a predetermined plan. This plan is our family's plan of action, and our parents' plan of action. Our vision, our mission, is the result of their vision. Their goals form our goals. Failure to achieve our goals is due to not following a plan.
Many times, I hear people say that they were never really successful. That they found so many ways to be successful, but never felt like they reached their goals. In this case, what they probably didn't understand is that they didn't even look at their life as a complete process of success, they just looked at it in the narrow-minded way of "making money." Although they were successful at making money, their dreams job was not achieved.
I get asked this question a lot: "What does success look like to you?" This question is not always easy to answer. In fact, for some people, the definition of success might even vary based on where they are in their life. For example, I was recently in a business consulting position, which defined success to me as getting into the next five biggest companies in my industry. If I had been successful in one or two of those companies, however, I would not have been satisfied with that outcome.
For me success means that I am able to get in the top five companies within my field and make significant changes or new opportunities for my clients. For me, success is a question of definition. means different things for different people. Here are two of the ways that Americans define success: the vision and the end result.
Vision is something more than just a goal. Vision is more than a goal. It describes what we desire to achieve, how we will get there, and where we hope to end up. Having a vision and a plan to reach that vision are two very different things. Some people believe that dreams are just a way of telling you that you failed or that you haven't reached your goal. Others believe that dreams are the way for you to be successful because they will point you in the direction of your future.
Having a vision is important, but having a plan that will lead you to that vision is even more important. I think both are equally important. Most people focus on achieving the best level of success possible while living the lifestyle that they have always dreamed of living. Others focus on achieving their goals as fast as possible to feel accomplished. Both are important in reaching your goals.
