Defense Grid 2 is a 2014 tower defense video game developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and published by 505 Games. As a sequel to the 2008 Defense Grid: The Awakening, the game was crowd-funded on Kickstarter in 2012[4] and released on Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on September 23, 2014.[5][6][7] Linux and OS X versions were released on October 15, 2014,[8] and the Nintendo Switch version was released on February 7, 2019.[9]

Dan Stapleton of IGN gave the game 8/10, praising its replayability factor with the inclusion of modifiers for the towers, maps and levels, while criticizing the writing of the singleplayer campaign's story and the multiplayer gameplay for being "slow and crippled" compared to singleplayer.[17] Emanuel Maiberg of PC Gamer, giving the game 83/100, remarked that the game "isn't doing anything I haven't seen in previous tower defense games, but it does it all so well."[18]

DG2 is a pretty straight-forward, typical, modern towerdefense title in the mechanics. Most of the variations are in the fine detailsof the game. For most of the maps, there is no pre-determined path for theenemies to go through. Instead, the path is created by your placement oftowers, pretty typical really. The goal of the enemies is to reach your powercore, but instead of damaging it, the enemies steal bits of the core which theyattempt to high tail it out of the combat zone with. This creates aninteresting game mechanic. Instead of worrying about defeating the enemy unitsbefore they reach their objective, you get something of a second chance at themas they try to escape. When a fleeing enemy unit falls, the core bit it wascarrying will follow the same path the enemies use back to the core.Interestingly enough, if that core bit then encounters another enemy, thatenemy will capture it and immediately start retreating. In a way, this gamemechanic gives a feel that resembles football (the American kind) but in somebizarro world where the end zones have been flipped.

This wants to be comfort food that you'll return to again and again, mixing things up a little each time. And you probably will do just that. Again, it's familiar fare but approached with enthusiasm and expertise, and makes a strong case for tower defence having as much lure as it ever did. I want to say "Defense Grid 2 is the best tower defense game I've played in ages," but I haven't played any other tower defense game in ages, and a big part of that is because the last time I tried to I struggled to find anything like the level of craft and care in DG2.

Thus is a metaphor belabored for DG2: Defense Grid 2. As a tower defense game and the sequel to the authoritative 2008 original, DG2 does not deviate into new territory. It stays its course, obeying fairly strict genre conventions.

Defense Grid 2, DG2 is the highly anticipated sequel of Hidden Path Entertainment 2008 Defense Grid: The Awakening, for all those who love tower defense games. Defense Grid 2 introduces new worlds, new look, strategic placement of defensive towers, the single player campaign with the addition of new game modes, new opportunities and challenges. DG2 comes with 21 amazing maps with dynamic levels, story and characters in the new multiplayer modes.

A lot of thought, experience and creativity has gone into the development of the title, and it shows. All the over-the-top joy of the first version is back but (to a certain extent) bigger and better. The game features a truly strange and fascinating storyline written by Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn, though it is really just dazzling window-dressing on a fairly straightforward tower defense title. But as far as blue plate tower defense goes, the Defense Grid franchise is the Gold Standard.

Indeed, you can now turn on a heat map that shows where your defenses are dealing the most damage, relative to the power of the units marching on your cores. It is a great way to optimize, refactor and adjust for the high damage through all corridors.

Remember that towers can not be damaged by enemies, but the return on investment for selling one is very poor and, with finite resources trickling in during any given level, you must choose what, where and when you build your defenses wisely.

Perhaps the biggest new feature is multiplayer, which offers you the ability to team up with a friend in co-op mode (sharing resources between you), coordinated defense (further limiting players to only their designated building squares) and DG fighter (two players compete on separate versions of the same map and each alien killed is sent immediately to the other player).

Setting the bar as the definitive tower defense game, Defense Grid 2 introduces new worlds and threats to test your tower placement strategies. With a bold new look and the addition of new game modes, player-versus-player and multiplayer co-op, every play brings fun new opportunities and challenges. be457b7860
