I have been fascinated by the written word since I was a kid. I read and wrote voraciously and was fascinated by what language could do. This led me to get my first degree in languages, studying Spanish and German. I then went on to get an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of South Carolina. With these degrees in hand, I went out into the world to teach English and write in a number of different capacities.
Some accomplishments along this writing journey include the publication of my chapbook Between Tea Leaves and Tree Leaves in 2003 by Thrift Press. I've also done numerous poetry readings, including working on Turner South’s My South Speaks campaign. I had the opportunity to serve as an artist in residence for the Historic Columbia Foundation and the USC Photovoice project. And I've also taught creative writing workshops for the Auntie Karen Foundation, SplitP, the University of South Carolina, and the College of the Marshall Islands. Along the way I have had work published in the Marshall Islands Journal, Alimentum Journal, Travel Noire, and Fourth Wave .
While creative writing is my passion, I have done quite a bit of formal writing work as well. I have written education content for Gomta Services Inc and I became a content creator for Bankrate in February of 2019. I have also done freelance proofreading, translation, editing, copywriting, and transcription work. And I have completed a certificate course in editing through the Poynter Institute's ACES program.
