I have uploaded a number of maps (or may be diagrams) showing the layout of the Vickers Armstrongs (Aircraft) factory in 1968. They are saved as GIF files here but when making my "Sketch Up" models I use PNG files with white as the transparent colour. My intention is to make a model of the Brooklands site using these maps as a guide. However I have had problems with scale and rotation. The various maps are not quite fitting together, they were made for the publicity department as a rough guide to the site. I have tried to make the maps match any physical features such as the river, the race track and any roads but it is not easy. So there are some errors, I would hope to be no more than 50 metres out. Each map mates with the adjacent map, well nearly.
If you click on a map below it will fill the screen, use your back control to get back to this page
Each map has it's own SketchUP kmz or kml file. Each file has the map and some simple 3D models of the buildings.
Download each file to your computer then double click it.
Google Earth should then run !
An easy file with which to start is named Vickers-pins.kml and shows the map below together with a number of "information pins" with details about the buildings that were at this location C 1968. This will be superimposed on the present day Google Earth map.
These pins, but not the map, are also visible on my Google maps short URL = http://goo.gl/maps/RUcZ5
