The team resumed working with Geoff's team hedgelaying along Pink Lane and Robin's team continuing the coppicing in section V

23rd Nov: 3 Siskins, Goldcrest (S & LD)

19th Nov.: 2+ Redpolls, c25 Redwings, c6 Fieldfares (RG)

17th Nov: Hare in section V (Maurice Watkin)

12th Nov: At least 7 Lesser Redpolls, 3 Marsh Tits, c5 Fieldfares, c5 Redwings, also at least 3 Common Darters - 17 Redpolls trapped and ringed that day (ST)

4th Nov: Redpoll, Ravens, Marsh Tit

The team finished clearing the pond of elodea and continued to coppice section V.

3rd Nov: Chiffchaff singing, Raven - Brown Hairstreak egg search.

28th Oct: Crossbill over, Raven, Marsh Tit, 2 Southern Hawkers

The team split as on 14th, and the scrub cutting was completed, and about 40% of the pond was cleared of weed - mainly Elodea.

14th Oct: Crossbill over, 2 Marsh Tits

The team split, one half cutting scrub around the Newt Pond, the other coppicing section V, north half.

7th Oct: The team completed scything along the north ride.

28th Sept.: c8 Siskins, 2 Marsh Tits, Red Admiral, Vapourer

23rd Sept: The team cut trees in the pond in section Q and lopped woody material along the north ride

18th Sept: c10 Siskins scattered through the wood, 3 Marsh Tits, Goldcrest

Transect 10: Large Skipper 4, Speckled Wood 2, Meadow Brown 28, also Small Tortoiseshell and female Brimstone in the meadow, also Nemaphora degeerella and Emperor.

30th May: 4 Fledgling Chiffchaffs, Green Woodpecker. In the newt pond area - Black-tailed skimmer: 3 (1 male, 1 female, 1 immature male), Large red damselfly (1), Azure damselfly (2), Meadow Pond - Four-spotted chaser (at least 10 including 2 ovipositing females), Black-tailed skimmer (4), Broad-bodied chaser (1), Emperor (1). 22nd May: Marsh Fritillary in the meadows - the first for decades (David Garwood)

Transect 7: Brimstone 1, Small White 1, Green-veined White 10, Orange Tip 1, Speckled Wood 5, also Broad-bodied Chaser (RG)

2nd May: Blackcaps, Cuckoo, Chiffchaffs, Marsh Tits, 3 Willow Warblers and possibly one Garden Warbler. 6 helleborine protectors, no Birds Nest Orchids, quite a lot of small clusters of Wood Sorrel in the usual place, though none were in flower. Adders Tongue fern, Early Purple Orchids.. all in their usual places, but couldn’t find any Twayblades. Above all - Brown Hairstreak caterpillar! (First for Ravensroost) (JaneD)

15th April: Cuckoo (per JaneD)

12th April: Treecreeper and also a pair of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers, 2 Blackcaps and 2 Chiffchaffs and lots of Blue Tits. Also 1 Speckled Wood, 3 Orange Tips, 4 Peacock and 1 male Brimstone butterflies plus another Hare.(D&DG)

7th April: Pair Marsh Tits, ringed Chiffchaff, Hare, 3 Orange Tips & Brimstone female (D&DG)

4th April: Primroses and Wood Anemones and one lonely Bluebell! Lots of Brimstone and Peacock butterflies and I think I saw an Orange Tip. There was one in my garden too. Lots of bird song. Newts in the pond. (Val Macauley)

23rd March: Colour-ringed Marsh Tit, also Treecreeper, several Commas, Small Tortoiseshells, Peacocks and a Brimstone butterfly. (Dave & Debbie Gilbert) Simon's comment on the Marsh Tit:

That bird was ringed on the 12th November last year at Ravensroost. It was fledged last year, and so we were unable to sex it, as it can only be done on either brood patch or the male's cloacal protuberance. If (a big "if") and when we get out again in the next month or so, if I can retrap it, I should be able to say more about its sex.(Simon Tucker)

Colour-ringed Marsh Tit (Dave Gilbert)

18th Mar. Pair Canada Geese on and over the meadows and ponds - first for the reserve, pair Mallards, c10 Fieldfares, Treecreeper, c3 Chiffchaffs - first for the year, lots of frogspawn in the meadow ponds.

Otherwise event cancelled due to the virus (RG)

11th Mar: Singing March Tit, 3 singing Treecreepers, drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker

5th Mar: :Late Winter Bird Survey: Number of birds as follows (underlined, song heard): 17 Blue Tits, 13 Robins, 11 Blackbirds, 7 Great Tits, 3 Chaffinches, Crows, Wood Pigeons, 2 Nuthatches, Song Thrushes, Wrens, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Jackdaws, 1 Goldcrest, Buzzard, Treecreeper, Redwing, Marsh Tit, also, in meadow and ponds, Moorhen, Reed Bunting, 2 Mallard, Pheasant (RG,HughS)

4th Mar: Pair Ravens, Marsh Tit, c12 Fieldfares, c 4 Redwings incl. song heard, drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker

The team split Geoff's half carried on with the hedgelaying along the lane and Robin's did some more hedge repairs at the bridleway including some laying (RG,GW,KS,JaneD,JohnD,SM,KW,AH,SD,HB,EB,HelenS,MC,Graham Fletcher)

19th Feb: Pair Ravens, 2 singing Nuthatches

The team created a fence extension along the left hand side of the ride from the entrance gate from the end of the previous one to the Horse Chestnut by the ditch.(RG,GW,KS,SM,SD,TS,KW,ILD,HelenS,JaneD,AH,Adrian Horsell, JB,MC)

The team completed the scallop round the pond in section Q then in the afternoon everyone helped the hedgelayers along Pink Lane. The Oak by the car park had been felled by the recent gales. (RG,GW,KS,SM,KW,ILD,JB,SD,MC,AH,HelenS,MW,HB,EB,MA,CA)

22nd Jan.:

15th January: Raven, Marsh Tit, Agonopterix ocellana

The team cleared in front of the Island Pond, created two scallops in section 4 and the chain sawyers felled trees in the pond in section 3. (RG,JC,GW,KS,JohnD,SD,SM,HelenS,MW,JB,AH,TS,HB,EB,JaneD,MC)
