The IISER Media & Stock Centre is funded by IISER, the National Facility for Gene Function in Health and Disease (NFGFHD) and extramural grants procured by the Rikhy/Ratnaparkhi/Shashidhara labs. The facility staff, in addition to maintaining stocks, provides fly media for experiments and shares their expertise (& stocks) with startup labs in the Pune region.

Fly Daakia is the eponymous name given to a system that supports the Indian fly community by procuring BDSC stocks. This is useful for Indian labs that struggle with the paperwork for import of flies. The system was set by the IISER fly labs (Shashidhara/Ratnaparkhi/Rikhy), who also fund the same. In order to keep the system financially viable, we procure 20 stocks per lab (per order) from the BDSC stock centre and deliver them via speed-post. Over the last 2 years we have distributed ~600 stocks to 30 different labs in the community.

This is a network of labs in India that are willing to share resources, mainly fly-stocks, with each other. Exchange is facilitated by sharing stock-lists in a common online Google documents file. Stocks in the labs of the Shashidhara/Rikhy/Ratnaaprkhi labs are part of this enterprise.

The three IISER fly labs have collected a varied number of vectors and genes for Drosophila melanogaster. We are happy to share these with the community when there is no conflict with a MTA that we have signed with any other entity.
