I am a third year PhD candidate at the Optimisation and Pattern Recognition Group which is a part of the school of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering at University of Melbourne. I am currently reading for my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Saman Halgamuge, Prof. Sherene Loi, Dr. Jason Li and Dr. Peter Savas. My research interests lie in the general areas of machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing. Currently, I am working on solving the limitations of processing weakly labelled multi-gigapixel histology images for cancer prognostication.
Alongside my PhD, I am also working as a Research Assistant (Data Scientist) at the Bioinformatics Core at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. Previously, I was a Software Engineer and a Trainee Software Engineer at Sysco Labs, Sri Lanka. I received my Bachelor’s Degree (1st Class Honours) from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. I am/ have tutored several modules while being affiliated to both University of Moratuwa and University of Melbourne.
I have also been actively volunteering since my schooldays. Currently, I am the co-chair of the IEEE WIE Victorian section where we carry out projects to motivate, guide and assist STEM enthusiasts.
In my free time, you can find me either dancing, going on hikes, or listening to music while doing artsy crafts. I also adore dogs so you might spot me petting them during my evening walks.
