I am currently an Associate Professor of Economics at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai, India. 

In the past I have held research positions at the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) in Chennai, Reserve Bank of India in Delhi, and the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC. I am a member of the core committee of the Society for Economics Research in India (SERI). I was in the research secretariat of the Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee, that drafted the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code of India, 2016. 

I am currently an Editor in Chief of the Journal of South Asian Development.

I completed my M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). I hold two previous degrees in Economics from India, a Bachelors degree from Presidency College, Calcutta and a Masters from Delhi School of Economics.
