Raptors' Parade

June 17, 2019

A day off... what to do? Let's fly to the Raptors' Parade says Shirley. Ok says I.

We left Carp (CYRP) early in our RV9A and arrived at the Toronto Island airport (I hate calling it Billy Bishop) just before 8 AM. A quick walk through the underground connection, we then made our way towards Nathan Pillips Square following the parade route. Found a good spot right on the curb, corner of York and Lake Shore. Four hours later, a parade was in sight.

Returned to Ottawa (Carp) later in the evening after meetup with a friend, and a good Taco at 7 Lives in Kensington. Highly recommended.

1h20m each way. Toronto controllers were great to deal with.

Before the crowds

We see a professional photographer with two Nikon D4 hanging from his neck. "Would you please take a photo of us?", he starts picking up his D4 as I smile and hand him our puny camera. He smiles sheepishly and takes our photo. Really nice fella. Thanks photo guy.

Out of 2M people, my former colleague Jarnail recognizes me in the crowd. He was there with his family for the parade, also travelling from Ottawa.

Lots of garbage afterwards but cleanup crew was raring to go.
