While in undergrad, I was introduced to the third Hilbert problem during the Directed Reading Program at UC Davis. I ended up doing my presentation on the Casson-Lin invariant for SL2 instead, but I liked this problem so much I wrote an essay on it. This was written while I was an undergrad, and was meant to be approachable without a strong mathematical background. Some of the details are imprecise or naiive, but I still like the project.
