The Round table on Astroscience & Planetary Analogues (RAP) is a collaborative platform that extends the vision set by the Vikram Discussions I and II, held at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, in January 2024 and January 2025. These meetings gathered leading researchers in astrochemistry, astrobiology, and planetary science to evaluate the national research landscape and identify pathways for integrated scientific progress.
RAP focuses on advancing astroscience, including astrochemistry through modeling and experimental studies to understand molecular evolution in interstellar and planetary environments, and astrobiology aimed at exploring the origins, distribution, and potential habitability of life beyond Earth. The planetary science component emphasizes surface processes, mineralogy, and atmospheric studies of terrestrial bodies, supported by data from Indian and international missions.
Through planetary analogue research—using Earth environments to simulate extraterrestrial conditions—RAP bridges theoretical insight with experimental validation. By fostering connections between modelers, experimentalists, and mission scientists, RAP seeks to strengthen India’s scientific capabilities and expand global collaboration in the exploration of planetary systems and the origins of life.
