Research

The research focus of the SDS Lab is to develop scalable algorithms, techniques, and systems for gaining insights from massive, heterogeneous datasets in domains such as ecommerce, social media, healthcare, and defense applications. This demands new innovations in generative AI/machine learning, data and knowledge management, and information retrieval. Specifically, the availability of large language models and advanced cyberinfrastructure offers new opportunities to develop innovative solutions for complex data science problems. The Lab has expertise in big data systems, machine learning, and cluster/cloud computing technologies. It develops innovative applications of machine learning/deep learning techniques to solve challenging problems in healthcare (e.g., disease diagnosis), cybersecurity (e.g., health data sharing), and digital humanities (e.g., historical text analysis).
