An Egyptian feminist journalist who has fifteen years of experience in journalism and women’s rights advocacy and six years of training in gender-sensitive media and feminist film analysis.

Raneem Al-Afifi, who sees the media as a form of feminist resistance, is the founder and executive director of the feminist media project ولها وجوه أخرى (in English: She Has Other Faces), which incorporates an online platform that integrates a feminist perspective into the content it publishes. The project also produces feminist comics, podcasts, video reports, and organizes workshops on gender-sensitive reporting and film criticism from a feminist perspective.

She is a specialized trainer in gender-sensitive journalism and film criticism from a feminist perspective and has conducted dozens of workshops on both topics with national and international NGOs. Also, she is the author of two guides, «The Basics of Gender-Sensitive Media Reporting» and «Media Reporting on Health Crises from a gender-sensitive Perspective.»

Raneem developed two guidebooks for journalists on reporting from a gender-sensitive perspective: Basics of Gender-Sensitive Journalism and Gender-Sensitive Reporting on Health Crises. In addition, she is the author of the e-book (Women's Portrayal in Egyptian Film Posters). She also pens articles in both Arabic and English on feminism and media, whether for Wlaha Wogoh Okhra (her project) or other independent platforms. 

Raneem is a multimedia journalist who makes audio and video journalism. She recently produced a series of radio interviews for The Sanctuary Radio, based in Troy- New York, on the relationship between democracy and journalism in the current U.S. context after the 2024 elections. She also produces video journalism, using digital media's visual power to investigate intriguing social and political issues and concepts from a feminist perspective. 

Her most recent documentary, "Gender (Studies) Is Burning," debuted in Albany, New York, in 2026. In the 30-minute documentary, Raneem examines the ongoing interregional mobilization against women's and gender studies by far-right groups. The film demonstrates the interregional character of the anti-gender studies attacks and its integration into white supremacist and anti-immigrant politics. It explores how the attacks on anti-gender studies are closely connected to rising anti-democratic trends by tracing connections between the global shift toward authoritarianism.

Raneem is a member of the MedFeminiswya network, which aims to support and empower feminist journalists in Mediterranean countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Raneem got certified from the Hague Academy for local governance in April 2024 after completing practice-oriented training on gender-sensitive and responsive governance.  

In addition, she is an Atlas Corps Scholar. She joined the first cohort of the Virtual Leadership Institute at Atlas Corps International (a United States-based NGO), which equips global social change leaders with skills and an international network that support them in amplifying their positive social impact in their communities. She received her certification in servant leadership from the Ubuntu Leaders Academy, promoted by the Padre António Vieira Institute (IPAV in Portugal), which is based on the Ubuntu philosophy, “I am because you are."
