The Owens-Thomas House is in the historic district of downtown Savannah, Georgia. Surrounded by other property homes to well-known figures in Savannah, near old inns converted to restaurants or museums, and close to historic parks. The whole area is filled with history and information about Savannah's people and events. The historic district was once just home to Savannah's elite. Most families in this area were bankers, lawyers, politicians, business people, and, more than likely, plantation owners. The people in this area had money and thus usually had a well-known name. Therefore why their homes are in the historic district. What was then homes are now museums, inns, restaurants, and bars. These are places that still hold their history through George Welshman Owens. There are many homes available to live in the historic district, but for those visiting, they can gather a sense of history and life through homes like the Owen-Thomas House and understand life for all who lived behind those doors.
