About Us
About Us
The official purpose of the PTO is to support and enhance the education of children at Ramsey by fostering a spirit of cooperation and promoting open communication between families and staff of the school. Unofficially, we raise money for teachers and students to support educational goals for all, provide fun activities for the children, and spoil our teachers and staff who work so hard. We generally hold monthly meetings open to any and all parents, legal guardians, or extended family members (with permission of the student guardian).
Bonus: we are a PTO, not a PTA. The difference is our membership is open and free, whereas with a PTA you have to pay a membership fee and dues to be involved.
There are two ways you can be involved in the PTO: 1) a board member, or 2) a general volunteer.
General volunteers are welcome to attend and vote in any general PTO meetings. Ideally, these volunteers will also help with any events planned out by the PTO in the best way that they can, if they are available. There are no "set" requirements for general volunteers that members are required to fulfill; help if and when you can is the motto here.
The board consists of six volunteers- all equal governing power but different responsibilities. We operate with two co-presidents, two co-treasurers, and two co-secretaries. All board members are asked to commit to a two-year commitment. The board generally meets once a month in an executive board meeting, as well as they are present for the once-a-month general PTO meetings. The executive meetings are meant to take care of PTO account business, as well as plan upcoming events and map out general meetings. The board also uses an electronic communication platform to communicate between meetings and keep business moving forward.
