RAMON,ISABELA HISTORY
The Municipality of Ramon was established on June 18, 1961, through Republic Act 3320 after the efforts of community leaders and Congressman Delfin Balabbo Albano. Several barrios were separated from the Municipality of Santiago and San Mateo to form the new municipality, with Barrio Burgos becoming the seat of government. The town center was later changed to Barrio Bugallon through Republic Act 5276 in 1968.
The conversion of Barrio Bugallon into a municipality was initiated during the term of Barrio Captain Angelino F. Vizcarra. Marcos Apigo, the abalayan of Congressman Albano, played a significant role in the process. The territory of Lappau-Begona-Oscariz and the Ilocano barrio of Bugallon were segregated from existing pueblos to form the new municipality.
Various barrios such as Bugallon Proper, San Sebastian, Raniag, and others were separated from their original municipalities to be part of the Municipality of Ramon. The Act establishing the municipality came into effect after the election of new municipal officials in November 1963. The changes in the town center and the seat of government reflect the growth and development of the newly formed municipality.Seven more barrios were created after the founding of the town: Bugallon Norte ,Villa Beltran, Bantug, Ambatali , San Antonio , and Villa Marcos.
The new town was named after President Ramon Magsaysay, who was highly esteemed by the Filipino people. Two towns, Municipality of Magsaysay and Municipality of Ramon, were named in his honor in the province of Isabela. Initially, the name "San Ramon" was suggested to add a Christian element while paying tribute to the president.
There are conflicting reports on the origin of the town's name. Some sources indicate that it was named after Palawan Representative Ramon Mitra, Jr., while others suggest it may have come from the word "samon," referring to a type of weed that was abundant in the area when Ilocano settlers arrived in the 1920s. The connection between the town and the late Speaker of the House remains unclear.
