It has always amazed me how teaching Spanish literature and culture, as well as Spanish as a second language in the United States, has helped me grow both professionally and personally. I firmly believe that learning a new language—and, by extension, gaining access to a new culture—can transform the way we understand and experience the world. One of my central goals as both as a teacher and a researcher has been to uncover the cultural meanings embedded in literature, language, and cultural practices while encouraging students to broaden their perspectives and develop a deeper appreciation for cultural differences within an increasingly global society. Ultimately, my goal is to help students recognize that learning another language and culture not only expands their understanding of others but also opens the door to new possibilities, perspectives, and ways of experiencing life.
