USPTA Elite, and a longtime resident of Macon GA, Ramsey has coached many of the top ranked juniors in the Middle Georgia area, as well as in Chattanooga and Kansas City. Many received full scholarships to major universities, such as Clemson, GA Tech, UCLA, and UGA. One was able to “walk on” at UGA. One was part of a UGA NCAA National Championship Team; another won the NCAA Doubles title for UCLA. While he built a reputation for teaching “World Class” players as well as other teaching professionals, he found a real calling teaching players of all ages and abilities.
Ramsey was a top ranked junior player, and played collegiately at University of Southern California. He won the NCAA doubles with Rafael Osuna in 1961 & 1962, and was the NCAA singles semifinalist the same years. Dennis Ralston was also a team mate on this stacked team. He continued out of college and was nationally ranked #2 in doubles and #11 in singles.
Ramsey and his wife Sherry ran the Idle Hour Tennis Program for many years. He has been a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional since 1970, and enjoys teaching all ages and abilities. A very devout Christian, he has been involved in ministering through tennis for many years. As of 2020, he still is helping to develop students at Stratford Academy in Macon Ga, both as a person and a tennis player.
Some of his awards include 1963 USC Most Valuable Player, various USPTA Southern awards, USPTA TN Pro of the Year, and inducted into the NCAA Collegiate Hall of Fame in 2001.
