Fred has earned the highest certification the USPTA offered, that of Master Professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and two Associate degrees from Dalton State College. He has taught the game of tennis since 1972 as an instructor with Dalton State College continuing education department, Cobb County, Georgia parks & recreation department, tennis director at Sunset Hill Country Club in Carrollton, Georgia and currently teaches and owns Mountain View Tennis Club in Dalton, Georgia and works with Coahulla Creek High School Tennis team.
Joined the USPTA, in 1985, he has served as Southern Division Secretary, President and for 20 years as the Executive Director. A member of every Southern Division committee, he also served as Chair of the USPTA National President Caucus Committee and as Chair of the USPTA National Nomination Committee. He served on the USTA, Southern Section Professional Tennis Relations Committee since it was initiated until he went into semi-retirement.
Fred has received numerous awards including Southern Professional of the Year, four time winner of the Pride of the South, which was recently renamed the Fred Burdick Pride of the South Award, USPTA Georgia Professional of the Year, 26 Presidential Service Awards, Tennis Director of the Year and the USTA Southern Section President’s Recognition Award..
Fred has published many articles in the Southern Division Newsletter The Standard and is also published nationally in ADDVANTAGE MAGAZINE, NET NEWS,and TENNIS MAGAZINE in an article called “Tips from the Nations Top Pros”. A life member of the USTA and certified stringer of the U. S. Racquet Stringers Association and member since 1977, he quit counting racquets strung when he got to 11,000 but still strings for his customers and high school team.
Fred retired as Executive Director in 2011 but will continue to teach and serve the USPTA and Southern Division as long as he is needed and physically able.
