a USPTA Master Professional, is the Director of Tennis at Dunwoody Country Club in 2020, and has been teaching and coaching for them since Jan. 1, 2006. Prior to that, Dave was the Director of Tennis at the Atlanta Country Club, where he spent 14 wonderful years. Before taking the position at the Atlanta Country Club he was the Head Professional at the Country Club of Roswell for 4 years under the tutelage of the Legendary Tennis Professional “Cindy Jones”. Prior to moving to Georgia Dave worked for another Tennis Legend, “Brian Marcus”, at the East Hills Athletic Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Born and Raised in Michigan, Dave played his collegiate tennis at Spring Arbor University in Michigan, where he played the number one singles and one doubles for the “Cougars” while earning his degree in Biology. Dave and his partner (Jon Halseth) were the GA State Senior Men’s 35 Doubles Champions twice, and more recently the GA State Senior Men’s 40’s Doubles Championship
Dave has served the tennis community in many capacities. Five times he has served the teaching professionals in Georgia as the president of the “Georgia Professional Tennis Association”. Dave has also served as the President of the Southern Division of the USPTA. He has also served as the Chairman of the “Tennis Professionals Committee” for the USTA southern section and is a Past President of USTA Atlanta, the largest CTA in the country. On Saturday afternoons in the spring and fall, Dave donates his time to the ALTA Foundation as its Director of Instruction for the Wheelchair Tennis program. Dave has been working with Wheelchair athletes for over 30 years in GA and MI.
Dave has been fortunate to receive several awards during his career. He was honored in 1991, 1994, & 2001 as the USPTA Georgia Pro of the year. In 2003 he was named the USPTA Southern Professional of the year. He has also named the GPTA Head Pro of the Year in 1988 and 1989, GPTA Director of the year in 1997, and he was given the GPTA Community Service Award in 1995 and 2013, the Community Outreach award in 2013, and the GPTA Volunteer of the year in 2000 and 2004. Dave was inducted into the GPTA Hall of Fame in 2007, and named GPTA Director of the year in 2008. Dave was also honored in 2008 by the USPTA Southern Division with the “Pride of the South Award”. Dave was honored by USTA Georgia as the 2005 Pro of the year. He was also honored by the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) as the 2001 Volunteer of the Year. He was also recipient of the 2002 American Heart Association “Tuffy” Taylor Memorial Award for his Contribution to the Tennis Community. Dave was honored by the Southern Division of the United States Professional Tennis Association by being inducted into the Southern Division Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2015 Dunwoody Country Club was honored by the Georgia Professional Tennis Association with the “Community Outreach” Award and the “Creative Event” Award. In 2015 Dave was named the PTR “Georgia Professional of the Year”. In 2017 Dave was honored to win the GPTA “Service to the Industry Award”.
