Brian fell in love with tennis as a young boy in Holland, Michigan. At twelve years old Brian won the Michigan State 13 & under and qualified for the National 13’s in Chattanooga where he lost in the quarters. At age sixteen Brian won the National 18 Indoors Doubles in St. Louis and soon after was looking at numerous college scholarship offers. He chose the University of Michigan, the reigning Big Ten Champs. In 1968 and 1969 Brian captained the Michigan team to Big Ten titles and high rankings nationally. After several years playing professionally, Brian settled into a lifetime career managing tennis clubs and coaching. Brian coached Aaron Krickstein from age 7-13. He also coached Luke and Murphy Jenson for five years. Between 1971 and 1987 Brian managed tennis clubs Philadelphia, Detroit, Ft. Lauderdale, and Grand Rapids.
In 1987 Brian accepted the Director’s position at the prestigious Atlanta Athletic Club – until he retired in 2009. Brian joined the USPTA in 1971 and throughout his career he spoke at numerous sectional and nations conventions. He also continued competing. He was runner-up in the USPTA National Singles Men’s Open in ’73 and ’75. In 1975 Brian won the National USPTA Indoor Doubles title. Brian was recognized with numerous awards during his career. He was selected the 1975 Midwest USPTA Pro-of-the-Year; he was inducted into the 1990 Greater Lansing Sports Hall-of-Fame. In 1992 the GPTA selected Brian as the Tennis Director-of-the-Year and in 2005 the Atlanta Athletic Club was selected by the USTA as the National Tennis Facility-of-the-Year.
Today hundreds of Tennis Directors use a software program that Brian developed for managing special events. Brian is married (50 years) to his high school sweetheart, Donna, and they enjoy three happily married daughters and seven beautiful granddaughters – all living in the north suburbs of Atlanta. In 2020 Brian still plays some social tennis and golf and he serves as an officer in Perimeter Church. He is the author of two books that he sells on Amazon Kindle.
