About me

I earned my Ph.D. from the Centre for the Environment at IIT Guwahati. Under the guidance of Prof. Mohammad Jawed, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati, and Prof. Gurvinder Kaur Saini, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Guwahati. Throughout my Ph.D. research, I focused on the biological wastewater treatment process. My work involved investigating the effects of toxic pollutants on sludge biomass, aiming to understand their impacts. Currently, I am working as National Post Doctoral Fellow with Prof. R. S. Singh from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology at IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

 Area of Interests

Working in the field of water and wastewater treatment excites me greatly. My key research interests are environmental microbiology, environmental biotechnology, biological wastewater treatment, and removing emerging pollutants and their effects on microorganisms. During my post-graduate research, I exploited naturally available biosorbents to remove Cr(III) and Cr(VI) from water. Following this, I became motivated to work on water treatment.

In my Ph.D. study, I combined biotechnology and environmental engineering skills. I broadly focused on biological wastewater treatment, particularly interested in biomass behavior in the presence of various emerging contaminants. I have tried to find suitable tools and techniques for assessing the recovery potential of aerobic sludge biomass stressed with copper(II), amoxicillin IV, chlorpyrifos, and piggery wastewater. We addressed the activated sludge behavior exposed to a high concentration of pollutants and also estimated the recovery capability of sludge. We mainly study water quality parameters, biomass activity, enzyme activity, biomass morphology, microbial community change, and reactor performance. I learned how to sample and analyze water quality parameters during my studies. I have a basic understanding of atomic adsorption spectrometers, high-performance liquid chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, and other essential equipment used in water analysis; nevertheless, I would be very interested in learning more about each element in this field of research.

Environmental Biotechnology

In the future, I would like to connect environmental engineering with biotechnology to correlate the relationship between microorganisms and the environment and their response, especially in the field of wastewater treatment.

Environmental Microbiology

Microorganisms are the heart of a biological wastewater treatment plant, and if anything happens to them, it directly reflects on plant operation and performance. Therefore I would like to research “what happens to microorganisms while treating wastewater with several pollutants load”?

Wastewater Treatment

Urban and industrial area releases wastewater in sewage, which contains several pollutants . I am interested in finding out, “what are the impacts exerted by these pollutants on the biological treatment plant, especially focusing on microbiology and biomass behavior”?
