Hi, I'm Raisul Arefin, a PhD student at Auburn University!

I am a computer science major and completed my bachelor's from BUET, Bangladesh. Then I worked as a software engineer for some time and then got into research. My area of interest is machine learning. I joined Dr. Subhra Kanti Karmakar's Big Data Intelligence lab at the beginning of the fall-21 semester.

Publications

Non-transfer Deep Learning of Optical Coherence Tomography for Post-hoc Explanation of Macular Disease Classification

This paper of myself as a first author has been published at IEEE-ICHI2021. I worked with Dr. Manar from Tennessee State University on this project.

Current works

Text Fusion

Text fusion is the task of combining multiple sentences into a single sentence. This has many uses. For example, during MOOCs or online lectures, the presenter is often bombarded with comments and questions from the audience. It is very hard for the presenter to respond to all of them. But text fusion can help. If we can find the similar questions/comments and combine them to a single question/comment, it would be easier for the presenter to manage and respond.

Molecular Dynamics

This is a project originally from Arizona State University. Dr. Shantu is a collaborator and I also  work on this from time to time. The project is about the molecular dynamics of atoms in a molecule. We want to predict the movements of the atoms in the molecule and we use LSTM for that.

Research Interests

I am currently working with machine learning technologies related to computer vision and natural language processing.  I am also interested in data mining.
