Ryan has been given an opportunity to have life changing Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) Surgery in the USA by the leading SDR Neurosurgeon in the world, Dr T S Park MD of The Children's Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, USA.

The operation would see all of Ryan’s spasticity removed from his legs. This is done by severing nerves in his spine. It is major surgery, with major recovery and a rehab schedule we’ve never seen before but this is his chance to walk and be pain free.

The surgery is a big deal and the best Paediatric Neurosurgeon will be holding the knife. But, to make the most of this opportunity it will be up to Ryan (and his team) to do the work post surgery. We are talking 2 hours a day for 2 years! Initially, this will be pure Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning, building his muscles from scratch, the right way this time. Once he has the basics back, his regime will incorporate and a combination of Hard Core Physical Training and the fun stuff like hydrotherapy, swimming, horse riding, bike riding and maybe even some ballet!

Ryan has already shown us he has the drive, determination and work ethic to succeed and we all know he will rise to the post surgery therapy challenge. Let's face it, it's all he has ever known, hard work and therapy. His playtime is therapy, reading a book is therapy, reaching, grasping, releasing, army crawling, rolling over, developing hand eye coordination to feed himself... it's all therapy.

Ryan can do this. He will once again exceed everyone's expectations and come out the other side bursting with pride and much improved mobility, so that he can keep up with his mates.
