Raising box turtles—especially the commonly kept Eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina carolina)—requires a deep understanding of their semi-terrestrial, forest-floor lifestyle. Unlike aquatic turtles, box turtles spend most of their time on land, only soaking or drinking in shallow water.
