Assistant Professor of Biostatistics
Assistant Professor of Biostatistics
I am an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of South Carolina. Before joining USC, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. I earned my PhD in Statistics from North Carolina State University, and my Bachelor's (B.Stat) and Master's (M.Stat) degrees in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata. I am originally from Uttarpara, West Bengal, India, a small suburb near Kolkata.
My research focuses on developing novel statistical methods, such as functional data analysis with applications in biosciences and distributional data analysis methods for modeling wearable data with applications in physical activity, CGM studies, gait, aging, and Alzheimer's disease. My other research interests and expertise in statistics include survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, variable selection, machine learning, nonparametric regression, shape-restricted regression, and Bayesian inference.
I am also very much interested in applied research to in applied research that identifies clinically relevant patterns from continuously monitored data, such as physical activity and sleep from wearable devices or blood glucose from CGM devices. A primary goal of this work is to associate these signals with relevant health outcomes and behavioral, cognitive, and neuropsychiatric endpoints. Please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in collaboration.
Students from South Carolina, USA, and India, get in touch if you are interested in doing projects in Statistics or Biostatistics.
Finally, these are uncertain and challenging times. Do stand up for what you believe is right.
