ABOUT

The Roscommon Area Historical Society was formed in 1984 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to preserve the area’s unique history and artifacts. All work is funded by memberships, generous donors, local foundations, service organizations, businesses, local school children and fundraising projects. Volunteers maintain the buildings and grounds, catalog acquisitions and serve as docents for the historical buildings and museum which are open free of charge to the public.

The RAHS has  sponsored historic home tours, cemetery walks and has a number of annual events, including an open house and decorated Christmas tree auction during the annual Christmas in the Village, a yearly birthday celebration for area residents who are 89 and older, and a Community Harvest Potluck every fall (see the Events Page for the upcoming schedule).  An ongoing project is the collection of oral histories from long time residents of the area. These recorded interviews are available for loan and are online, see the Oral Histories Page.

RAHS historical structures include the Gallimore Boarding House, the Richardson School house and the Silsby-Jacobson Building. They are located at 404 Lake Street (M18) in the village of Roscommon.

Membership in the Roscommon Area Historical Society is open to all. Dues are $20 a year with monthly meetings held at the Gallimore Boarding House every third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. April through November. Non members are welcome to attend meetings which often feature guest speakers.
