SensorLab Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 12 November 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to SensorLab! Your privacy is very important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the SensorLab mobile application ("App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described below.

SensorLab is designed to run primarily on your device. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not directly collect or store personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, or phone number.

2. Information We Collect and How We Use It

a) Personal Data

  • We do not ask you to provide PII and we do not maintain user profiles.

  • The App’s core measurements (light, sound, motion, proximity, etc.) are processed locally on your device.

b) Permissions and Sensor Access

SensorLab requests certain permissions to enable its features. We only use these permissions for the stated technical purposes and never for tracking or profiling users.

Permissions Used:

  • Microphone

    • Purpose: Sound-level and audio intensity measurements (noise meter, frequency analysis).

    • Data Collected: No audio recordings are saved or transmitted by us.

    • Storage/Sharing: Audio is processed locally in real time for measurements only.

  • Location (Approximate or Precise; When In Use)

    • Purpose: Enables certain sensors/features (e.g., geolocation context, compass accuracy, or location-tagging you explicitly request).

    • Data Collected: Location is accessed only while the app is in use to support the requested feature.

    • Storage/Sharing: We do not collect, store, or share your location data.

  • Activity Recognition / Motion & Fitness

    • Purpose: Step counting and motion-based features (e.g., pedometer).

    • Data Collected: Motion events and step counts; no health profiles are created.

    • Storage/Sharing: Processed locally; not transmitted by us.

  • Bluetooth (where available)

    • Purpose: Optional connection to external sensors or accessories.

    • Data Collected: Connection state only; we do not collect Bluetooth device lists for profiling.

    • Storage/Sharing: No Bluetooth identifiers are uploaded by us.

  • Notifications and Foreground Service (Android)

    • Purpose: Keeps background measurements or services running reliably and informs you when they’re active.

    • Data Collected: None.

    • Storage/Sharing: Used solely to show required system notifications for background tasks.

  • Vibration and Wake Lock (Android)

    • Purpose: Haptic feedback and ensuring the device stays awake during critical operations.

    • Data Collected: None.

  • Body Sensors (Android; if available on your device)

    • Purpose: Access certain sensor streams on supported devices.

    • Data Collected: Sensor readings only; no health records or biometrics are created by us.

  • Storage / Files Access (Android and iOS)

    • Purpose: Exporting your measurements to files you request (CSV, XLSX/Excel, and/or PDF) and saving them to a folder you choose, or sharing via the system share sheet.

    • Data Collected: The files contain only the measurement data you choose to export.

    • Storage/Sharing: Files are created locally on your device. We do not upload or keep copies on our servers.

    • Android 13+ Note: The app may request READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permissions if you choose to export or share files to your device’s media folders. SensorLab uses this access strictly for export operations that you initiate, and does not scan or collect your personal photos or videos.

3. Advertising (Google AdMob)

SensorLab displays ads using the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob). While we do not directly collect your personal data, AdMob may collect certain information to show and measure ads, such as:

  • Device identifiers (e.g., Advertising ID), coarse location, and general device/app information.

  • Ad performance metrics (e.g., impressions, clicks, error logs).

Controls and choices:

  • You can limit or reset the device Advertising ID in your device settings and opt out of personalized ads where supported by your platform.

  • For details about Google’s data practices for ads, please see Google’s Advertising Policies: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads

We do not use Firebase Analytics or other analytics providers in the App at this time. If that changes, we will update this policy.

4. Data Storage and Retention

  • Local-Only: Sensor measurements, preferences, and history are stored locally on your device using on-device storage (e.g., databases or app preferences).

  • Exports You Initiate: When you export data (CSV/XLSX/PDF), the file is saved to your chosen location or shared through the system share sheet. We do not receive these files.

  • Removal: All locally stored app data is removed when you uninstall the App. You can also clear the App’s data from your device settings at any time.

5. Sharing of Data

  • We do not sell, share, or transmit your personal data or sensor data to third parties.

  • The only third-party data flows arise from advertising (AdMob) as noted above and from your own voluntary use of the operating system’s share features when you decide to share exported files.

6. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate for a client-side mobile app. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We continuously improve protections but cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Third-Party Services

  • Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): Provides advertising and may collect data as described in Section 3.

  • System Share / File Dialogs: When you export or share files, your device’s operating system handles these actions. We do not receive copies of your files.

Each third party is responsible for its own privacy practices. Please review their privacy policies for more details.

8. Your Rights and Choices

  • Permissions: You can withdraw permissions (Camera, Microphone, Location, Bluetooth, Motion, Notifications, Storage) at any time via your device settings. Some features may stop working without certain permissions.

  • Exports: You control if/when CSV/XLSX/PDF files are created and where they are saved or shared.

  • Delete Data: Uninstalling the App removes local data. You may also clear App data from your device settings.

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can address it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted in this document with a new “Effective Date.” We encourage you to review the policy periodically.
