Teaching Philosophy:
As a teacher for the Post Graduate students, I strongly believe that learners should instigate a strong and time-honored theoretical foundation, and also they should learn to embrace opportunities to learn and work in a collaborative, interactive and constructive environment. Also the students should be able to realize and estimate difficulty in solving the problems which they are trying to, and this can only be gained through practical experience. I usually like to give the theory context by relating an application area where that particular topic is used. I also point learners to web pages, blogs or any other e-resources where they can refer much more materials related to the discussion, thereby increasing the value of the topic that was discussed in the class.
I also break up the routine of lectures using some activities and to draw the attention of learners. And also I use technologies which facilitate collaboration, interaction and discussion, be it traditional means such as Chalk-and-Talk or more recent tools including Google classroom, Canvas, Edpuzzle, etc. Flipped classroom, Problem based Learning, Game based Learning are few techniques which I usually try in my classes and even students started realizing the value of discussions and activities conducted in the classroom.
Professional Development:
I have been certified as the “IGIP International Engineering Educator” certified by International Society for Engineering Pedagogy, Wipro Certified Faculty as a Mentor for Project Based Learning (PBL) in JAVA J2EE, also Google Certified Educator-Level 2. The certification included a series of apps which would help in engaging learners outside the physical classroom, in a collaborative way. Apart from that, I am keen in taking up MOOCs which are related to Pedagogy, Serious Gaming, Gamification in Education. I have also participated in various Workshops and Seminars which develops many skills that are useful in person and also when teaching.
Evaluation of Teaching:
When asked, 93% of the class rated my performance as good or excellent to evaluate my overall effectiveness as a teacher. Also some of the comments include: “I want to take your other subjects in other semesters too”,” Thank you for being a great teacher”.
Future Goals:
My aspiration is to pursue my research in Gamification in Education and to continue teaching as it is an important part of the job being a professor and to share and gain the knowledge. I do believe in using new technologies and techniques in the class which enrich the teaching and learning environment. The teacher is the one who can sow the seeds in the mind of a learner to continue studies and to incubate the habit of lifelong learning.
