There is no doubt that the coronavirus has created a sense of uncertainty that never existed before. In fact, the only thing that seems certain is that nothing is certain. With that being said, the coronavirus gave us a unique opportunity to spend over a year of our lives at home whether we liked it or not, but in doing so, we were able to reconnect with our families in ways we've not had time for in years.
With that reconnection, we've continued to try to remain optimistic if not for ourselves, for our children. We have tried to tell our children it's perfectly normal to have remote learning, no socializing, nor any interaction with their peers or teachers, when we know that there's nothing normal about that. We've tried to tell our children it's normal that their parents are without a job, nor money because of something that they have no control, nor say over, when we know it's not normal. We've tried to tell ourselves and our children that it's normal there's no communions, no graduations, no celebrations, because the government is protecting us, even when we know that's not true.
We want to protect ourselves and our kids, but the truth of the matter is nobody could possibly have anticipated the overall impact the coronavirus would have on our physical, mental, emotional, and psychological well being. In an article titled Postponed Grief Tied To the Pandemic dated March 13, 2021, the number of drug overdoses doubled in Staten Island in the past 6 months compared to the same period time last year.
"During the pandemic and even now, increased stress and anxiety, coupled with isolation and other factors like loss of employment, would prove to be difficult for individuals in recovery and those actively struggling with substance abuse". Moreover, these same concerns are for everyone, especially when faced with a sudden loss of employment, and the ability to interact, socialize and collaborate in person with family, friends and colleagues.
Rage In Peace was created to give adults and kids the chance to blow off some much needed steam, relieve some stress and give people the chance to let out some frustration in a safe, fun, exciting environment. Before you decide if Rage in Peace is for you, ask yourself these questions.
