Rafael Baptista Palazzi is an assistant professor at the School of Economics, Business, and Accounting at the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) in Brazil.
His research focuses on price analysis, market microstructure, and anomalies in cryptocurrency and commodity markets.
His research has been published in high-impact journals, including the Journal of Futures Markets, the Journal of Commodity Markets, and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money.
He has been a visiting researcher at the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of California, Berkeley; the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics; and the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
With over 13 years of experience as a consultant and economist, he has worked with several multinational companies. His professional background includes negotiating and structuring local and international debt contracts, formulating effective hedging strategies, and engaging in foreign exchange trading. He played a key role in implementing the initial risk-hedging policy at Cosan, Brazil’s largest sugar mill. Additionally, he secured funding for Raízen, a joint venture between Shell and Cosan, both locally and internationally, and actively contributed to achieving the company’s AAA investment grade.
In 2018, he transitioned to academia, dedicating himself full-time to research and teaching.
