Central University of Jammu

The Central University of Jammu started functioning from 08th August 2011, and in a short span of time it has been able to carve a niche for itself at regional as well at national level. The Central University of Jammu came into existence with a mandate to be one of India’s leading universities offering innovative, responsive and high quality educational opportunities at undergraduate, post graduate and research levels.

The University is offering 35 programmes under the aegis of 19 Departments, 02 Research Centres and 01 College. The programmes include 04 five years integrated programmes, 15 Post Graduate, 12 Research oriented and 02 Vocational types at Under-graduate level. One Diploma course is being offered by the Community College, established in 2015 besides the University has succeeded in establishing 01 Research Chair, "The Swami Vivekananda Chair". At present, more than 1379 (approx) students from across the length and breadth of the country are registered for various academic and research programmes in various disciplines. The University has obtained the approval of Management and M.Tech (Computer Science and Technology) programmes from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

During the academic year 2016-17, MHRD has sanctioned Rs 9.5 crores under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teacher Training (PMMMNMTT). More than 47 major/minor research projects of academic and social relevance are undertaken by the faculty members. The faculty members are able to mobilise 24 crores extra-mural funding from different funding agencies viz. National Board of Higher Mathematics, D/O Atomic Energy, GOI, SERB, UGC, ICSSR, DST, IUAC, M/O Textile, GOI, DeITY, GOI, MSME, GOI, M/O New and Renewable Energy, GOI, EDII, Ahmedabad etc.

The University though in its nascent stage has taken several initiatives for promotion of academic and research by instituting several awards for students and faculty. The CU Jammu has made a significant progress in terms of national and international linkages by signing 17 National and 04 International Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs)/Bilateral agreements, some of which include MoUs with Melbourne University, Institute of Chinese Studies, ASHRAY Incubation, Ahmedabad, Central Universities of Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir for students and faculty mobility, Administrative Staff College of India, NASSCOM Foundation for Campus Employability Programme and VLCC for Joint Certification programme in Beauty and Wellness. The University has also obtained the membership of apex industry/academic bodies like United Nation Academic Impact (UNAI), CII, NHRDN, ISTD, AOITA, AIMA, ISTD, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries etc. Commensurate with the national agenda and local requirements for inculcating entrepreneurial skills among students and the local population, the University has established Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Council, under which the Innovation Cell and the Business Incubation Centre are presently functioning.

The growth of the University clearly reflects a visible upward graph in the area of teaching and learning, quality research and publication. This progressive developmental trend is quite visible in infrastructural and support facilities. Another notable fact worth mentioning is that the University possesses Faculty from all over the country. Many innovative proposals for increasing the educational opportunities in varied fields of specializations as submitted by the University are under consideration of various Ministries of GOI.

Department of Physics and Astronomical Sciences

The Department of Physics and Astronomical Sciences, CU Jammu was established in the year 2016 with the establishment of the five-year Integrated Masters of Science (Physics) program with a sanctioned strength of 30. A panel of national experts framed the initial structure of the Int. M.Sc. (Physics) Program. The aim of the program was an emphasis on strengthening core-competence in Physics while allowing the students to gain exposure to various other fields from sciences and humanities, thus giving a meaning to the integrated Masters title of the program. Right from the inception, to date, invited-faculty, guest-faculty and contractual faculty members have ably supported the Department. The Department also plans to offer Ph.D. program in Physics w.e.f. academic session 2018-19.

The research interests of the Department cover broad range of topics such as: Condensed Matter Physics, Nanotechnology, Lasers and Photonics, High Energy, Theoretical Nuclear Physics and Statistical Physics.

About Conference

The present Conference entitled “Recent Advances in Experimental and Theoretical Physics (RAETP-2018)” will be a National Conference. We intend in this conference to discuss the recent advances and trends in the experimental and theoretical physics. This Conference will certainly be helpful in exchanging of new ideas and sharing of information about the latest experiments performed by different experimental groups and different models and theories developed by different theoreticians of physics. The conference would offer a R&D updates from key experts and would provide an opportunity in bringing in new techniques and horizons that will contribute to prominent areas of Physics in the next few years. The conference will include some invited talks by eminent scientists and experts from the academia as well as oral and poster presentations by young researchers dealing with state-of-art research in the subject and future developments. We expect that the conference will provide a platform at which one can discuss future prospects of mutual collaborations. Moreover, it is expected that the conference will be a trigger for further related research and technology improvements in this important subject. It is expected that many young experimentalist and theoretical physicist will attend the Conference. The number of participants will be limited to about 200.

The topics to be covered in the conference are: Material Science, Nano Technology & Nano Science, Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, Condense Matter Physics, Semiconductor Physics, Spectroscopy, Statistical and Computational Physics, Nonlinear Science, Engineering & Applied Physics, Soft Materials and Devices, Solid State Electronics and topics related to these.
