Who We Are

Rae’s Place is a dog-centered family business that serves our canine friends and their families from our home. Our setup is designed for your pet to feel safe, comfortable, and calm during their stay with us. We want them to feel as close to home as possible while you are away. We do this by inviting your fur babies into our home where we treat every dog like family!

We provide quality care, play, and socialization for your pet and meet any individual needs they have. Rae’s Place provides an environment where your pets can receive the love and attention they deserve in a family setting with a variety of resting areas (including full couch privileges), with loads of toys, chews, and activities. Our home is located in a country setting where your companion can enjoy fresh air, nature, and plenty of space. You can relax while you are away, knowing your pet is well cared for by a loving family in an actual family environment!

We absolutely will take your Pitties, Rotties, and Shepherds! Who wouldn't?

We groom dogs that are too aggressive or afraid to go to traditional groomers.  Many of these dogs have bitten groomers and now no one will try, or they require sedation from a veterinarian to be successful. We have found that this is largely unnecessary! We have yet to use sedation on any dogs that we groom and we are not afraid to get bit, either.

We do this by using a proper 3-point restraint, which keeps the dog still for their safety.  We also use other safety equipment such as padded cones and leather gloves to keep us safe, too. But our most important tools are time and respect! We only schedule a couple of dogs a day, so we can focus on one dog at a time and give them breaks when they are stressed. We also spend the time to stop and soothe them as they go. Kind words, snuggles, and treats can go a long way to helping your dog relax!

Traditional grooming shops are loud, hectic, and full of distractions. Your dog is groomed in assembly-line fashion, which means they wait for long periods of time for their turn, and then are rushed through the process. At Rae's Place, we embrace a different approach and have been very successful. We would love to help if your dog is anxious, aggressive, or would benefit from a spa day rather than an assembly line process!

Every time!

You could pick up your freshly groomed dog from boarding with us

They're already here, so you might as well get them back clean and fresh.

We groom anxious and aggressive dogs so they do not need to be sedated for grooming! If your dog is not a good fit for traditional groomers, please call us. It just takes a little extra time and care.  We also have specialized equipment for the task (when needed) to keep us safe, too.

It's much better for your dog to avoid being sedated, just ask your veterinarian about the risks involved!

Training Prices

Training is $25 for an hour at our location.

We also meet at the Tahlequah Dog Park sometimes for doggie play dates, with supervision.

If travel is an issue, I can come to your location with an extra fee for mileage. Or we can meet at Atwoods, Lowes, or any other public location that would help with socialization or specific goals, again plus mileage.

What is Special About Training at Rae’s Place?

Rae’s Place is different because we treat every dog like family and I’m not your traditional trainer! My degree is in Developmental Psychology. Before starting my own business, I worked in home health, behavioral health, and education. I took the skills I learned while working with human psychology to help pet parents understand their dogs better and modify unwanted or destructive behaviors. I also observe your dog closely and can interpret their personality type, insecurities, and body language to make an individualized training or boarding plan.

We start with the assessment, where I get to know your dog and you tell me what behaviors are troublesome. I will focus on those behaviors first. As we work on the behavioral issues, your dog will also learn “focus training”. That includes the basic commands and helping your dog control themselves better.

Some call me a Dog Psychologist, but I consider myself a Dog Behavioralist. Either way, I would love to help you and your dog come to an understanding and communicate better!

We specialize in working with anxious and aggressive dogs. This is Kash. He was a true face-biter.  He has graduated from training and just look at him now! Like most "aggressive" dogs, Kash was anxious about the world and was very serious about protecting his mom. Most cases of aggression in dogs is the result of anxiety, not viciousness. He has a whole new outlook on life now, and his mom is happy to take him places and have guests over again. He even has doggie friends!

Resident Good Boy Spotlight

This is Remi. We rescued him when he was 6 months old.  He's getting up there in years, but he still has a zest for life! Remi is my best helper because he allows me to assess new dogs quickly. He will immediately let me know if they are shy or outgoing,  anxious or aggressive.  He's such a big lover and he never misses a chance for attention, or snacks. He shows the new dogs around and is so well socialized that he quickly puts them at ease.  Good boy, Remi!

This is Zeke. We rescued him when he was about a year old. When he first arrived, he was terrified of everything: loud noises, eye contact, sudden movements, random objects, too much attention...everything. Now, look at this trailblazer! He loves adventure and is a great trail dog, he's so goofy and is always ready to be friends with everyone. He often lays with the new dogs when they are a little scared. Good boy, Zeke!

We take dogs with special needs-  whether they take meds, have accidents, need special diets, have sensory impairments, or have trouble getting around.

We take dogs of all sizes and breeds.  We can withstand the corgi side-eye, the poodle pout,  your frenchie's "fun", and squish your pit bulls smooshie face. Great Dane? Great snuggles!

We take elderly dogs, puppies, and all ages in between. We have squeakers, chews, rope toys, puzzle feeders, antlers, and outdoor areas for the energetic. And a variety of beds, pillows, blankets, and quiet areas for those that like a rest.

We take even the extremely spoiled cases! It's hard work, but we do what we can.

I'm Rae and this is Sarah. We started Rae's Place to help dogs be more comfortable, as an alternative to kenneling facilities when boarding. But we have found that this business is so much more than that! We help dogs by simply loving them while they are here, but we help their people by providing peace of mind while they are away.  Simply put, we love what we do, we respect dogs, and we help people.

This is Rowan and Ayla. We couldn't do what we do without these amazing ladies! Most of the dogs that stay with us end up sleeping with one of the girls (unless instructed by pet parents to not allow dogs on the beds). They help us with all aspects of the business,  but they specialize in snuggles and playtime! We are also lucky enough to be able to call them our daughters. We are so proud of them!

We specialize in working with anxious and aggressive dogs. This is Wulfy. A year ago she could have seriously hurt someone! Her family was afraid to let her off of their property. They were right to be afraid. Now, she plays with other dogs at the dog park and meets new people all the time. You would never believe it to look at her today, but it's a true story. My children snuggle this girl when she couldn't even be touched before. She is so much happier!

Spoiled? Not a problem. Begging? No worries. Learning to sit? We got you!

We are also available for your feline friends! They are welcome to board with us, or we can do house calls for cats.

Training, however,  is...well, good luck! We believe in you.

Customer Reviews

I've taken my dog to several daycare providers, and honestly Rachel is the best. She exceeded all my expectations, as she goes above and beyond in getting to know and caring for my dog's needs. She is a knowledgeable and experienced trainer, who's a patient teacher (for both me and my dog!). Her home is dog friendly with a large yard, and her own dogs are excellent examples to my own. I feel blessed to have found her!  -  Raquel P.

I would honestly ask Rae to be my dog’s godmother at this point. I cannot speak higher for the individualized care and investment offered by this household…The training and insights Rachel offered has improved the communication lines between my dog and I, helping us understand how to meet each other’s needs better.  - Adam M.

Rachel is the perfect sitter for our dog! She’s an anxious and nervous dog, but Rachel made her feel comfy and cozy. I will forever recommend her! - Destiny B.

My dog Udadtli, a four-year-old Shih-Poo, has been a client of Rae's Place for over a year now. Rae's Place has been the best fit for Udadtli and her personality. Since having her as a pup, I can tell Udadtli benefits from a family environment. Every time I leave her at Rae's Place, Udadtli is so excited to see Rae and her family. I also get a status update with photos or videos of her stay at least once a day so I know she is having a good time. She always returns to me happy and tired (thankfully) from all the fun. I note all of this because of previous experiences where she would return to me depressed and sick from traditional boarding kennels. After these experiences, I learned that Udadtli's best fit is a "free range" place where she can fold into the family. It is a relief to know she is in good hands at Rae's Place where she has a home away from home. - Lizz T.

PRICING

Boarding

Boarding starts at $30 a night per dog.

Puppies under 1 year old are $35 a night.

Dogs that require extra special care may also be $35, depending on the  level of care needed.

Ask about our discounts for extended stays and multi-dog families!

Beds, toys, and treats are provided. However, if you would prefer to bring items from home, that's lovely. Dogs find comfort in familiar items. Just please remember to get those items back from us when the dog leaves.

Please bring a sufficient amount of food for your dog's stay. We will provide food if needed, of course, but there will be an additional charge depending on the length of their stay.

Dogs are fed separately and are monitored while eating.

Training

Training is $25 an hour and we meet once or twice a week until you no longer need me.

We start with an assessment of your dogs' behaviors and develop a plan specific to them.

Training is usually done at our home, but we can also come to your house, meet at the dog park, Atwoods, Lowe's, or wherever is appropriate for our goals.

This is not a boot camp for dogs! It is behavior modification using positive reinforcement, reasonable consequences, boundary setting, and respect.

I have successfully worked with dogs with a variety of challenges, issues and neurotic behaviors. But, if I cannot help your dog with their problematic behaviors, I will let you know! I will not waste your time.

Grooming

Grooming starts at $60 and is adjusted based on the dog's size and type of fur.

All grooms include a bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, cologne, and breath spray.

Other services available for an additional charge include teeth cleaning, nail color, flea & tick treatments, and medicated shampoo for dogs with skin conditions.

Additional charges apply if the dog is very matted, as this takes much more time and care. We recommend keeping a regular grooming schedule to keep this from happening.

We specialize in grooming dogs with severe anxiety or aggression. We have the experience and equipment to do so safely, and we do not startle easily. However, additional charges may apply if your dog is extremely difficult to handle. This is rare.

Doggie Daycare

We know you hate leaving them home alone! Doggie Daycare is just $25 per week day.

A standard day is 9 hours or less. Longer stays than 9 hours is an additional $5.

Puppies under 1 year are an additional $5 as well since they do require extra care and supervision.

Drop off  begins at 7:00 am for you early birds.

Daycare provides much needed play, exercise, chewing, and socialization. Your dog can come home calm, content, and ready to rest, so you can enjoy your evening!

Doggie Daycare has limited spots, so please call to check availability. If we took too many, it would be a circus! We prefer a calmer setting to reduce stress on the dogs (and us).  This allows playtime to be fun and engaging, but still be structured and well monitored.

A little more about our family and who we are:

It's obvious we are dog lovers! But we also enjoy travel, hiking, camping, building stuff, our chickens, gardening, movie marathons, and being goofy together. Sarah and I have been together since 2007 (whew, that was a minute ago) and we adopted our daughters in 2022. We love these weirdos so much and are blessed to have them join our family.

I left my teaching career in 2021 to meet the needs of the girls and Rae's Place was born! We started with one daycare dog, Honey Bee. While working with Honey (a truly remarkable dog with an incredible family), I realized that this was it! This is what I wanted to do. Over the last 3 years, I have worked with over 100 dogs through boarding, training, and daycare. It's remarkable how the same patterns of behaviors repeat from family to family. If your dog is having destructive behaviors, neurotic episodes, or shows aggression, please let me help! If your dog suffers from separation anxiety or does strange things when left at home, please call. If your dog cannot get along with your other pack members, I would love to find balance. Or if you just need a safe, fun, and loving place for your dog to stay, we can do that!

Sarah is our resident groomer. She left her job in education to train at a local grooming studio and help out a friend. Now, she is ready to bring her skills to the family business. Working primarily with aggressive and overly anxious dogs, she has a knack for calming them down and showing remarkable patience. I assist her as she grooms, so your dog will have two professionals helping them when needed.

Thank you for checking out Rae's Place and I hope we can work together to help you with all your doggie needs! Much love- Rae Oglesby

Disclaimer!

We fully intend to spoil your dog rotten while they are with us! However, we do follow pet owners' rules, including whether their dogs are allowed on the furniture or not, sleeping arrangements, feeding schedules and amounts, treats allowed, etc. We do have a dog cave available for those who request kenneling at night and those who enjoy the safety of having a separate space. We always separate the dogs at feeding times.
