July's Mail Club was my kick-off mailing, and I kept it simple, but on point with the USA's celebration of 250 years of Independence. In 1776 this was a statement of intent, not fact. And once the war was over, and independence "won", argument continued about exactly what these thirteen states would do with this "freedom from tyranny". With the drafting of the Constitution, a commitment to some sort of democracy was established. The extent and interpretation of that democracy continues to this day, but it was the careful drafting of the Preamble to the Constitution that drove a stake into a common goal of all who are or are becoming an American. "We the People". You. Me. And our Posterity. Every one of us.
Mail Clubs, or "Happy Mail" as they are often called, are community-based, slow-life, curated treats that arrive in your mailbox each month to encourage human connection, thoughtful reflection, inspiration, and joy.
Most importantly, though, they work to counteract the rapid dopamine-hit of scrolling, texting, and other digital brain-rot through patient anticipation, a tactile "reward", and a sense of inclusion in an interest-based & like-minded group.

There is a growing bank of research on the negative impacts of digital overload, and in particular, "...internet addiction, problematic social media use, and doom-scrolling..." And in one study on the subject, the authors "identify dopamine-scrolling as a distinct behavioural pattern that warrants specific attention...". You can look for some of the following items each month:
A Word-of-the-Month BrainGame Card with word-nerd challenges, vocabulary enrichment exercises, and writing / conversation prompts
A letter, zine, article, or essay (from me!) with a deep-dive into etymology, usage, connotations, and suggestions on how to use the WOTM (and more) to show how smart, cool, concise, or creative you are!
A post card with an original poem and/or artwork (to keep or send)
A monthly surprise bonus to keep you curious about words & captivating to friends

When to look for your mailing:
Please note:
Each month’s mailing should be received between the 1st and 5th of the month (depending on USPS)
Sign Up during the OPEN WINDOW to receive your WELCOME letter AND the next month’s mailing.
Late Sign Up (CLOSED WINDOW) will receive a WELCOME LETTER, but may not receive the first subscription until the following month depending on timing and product availability.
Examples:
Sign up during MAY OPEN WINDOW (May 8 to May 18) — Look for a Welcome letter AND the JUNE mail club by June 5th (approximately).
Sign up after MAY WINDOW CLOSED (ie May 25) — Look for a Welcome Letter in June. Then you would be added to the JULY mail club list.
