What was the American Indian Movement?
The American Indian Movement was when the Indians wanted their freedom back. They wanted to prove that they also had rights. They were tired of getting treated poorly.

What did Native Americans want? Why?
They wanted rights and freedom to share their religion/culture. They wanted others to not judge them nor try to drive them away because of their culture.
Why did college students decide to protest at Alcatraz Island?
San Francisco State College and students from the University of Berkeley in California. They wanted to stage a demonstration that would draw a lot of media attention.
Which two federal policies were these students protesting?
BIA relocation policy, it was meant to remove Native peoples from reservation spaces. Termination was to make the Indians within the territorial limits of the U.S subject to the same laws to other U.S citizens.
What happened on the night of November 20, 1969?
They took over the island with 89 students. They took multiple boats over. The students showed that they were complex issues that needed to be sorted out which was the ability for tribes to make their own decisions.
What did the Nixon administration announce in 1970?
They announced that they were going to repeal the policies of termination, and that destructive policy of relocation.
What is the message of the song with regard to AIM?
It has to deal with the AIM because she's singing about what the Indians went through to get freedom and rights of their own.
Compare and contrast the American Indian Movement to one other civil rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s. (Think about each of the movements we have covered in this project).
They both want rights but for different races. AIM didn't seek full attention to white people meanwhile the Civil Rights Movement did.
