Our Research Staff
Siobhán McAlister
Siobhán McAlister is a Reader of Criminology in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work in Queen’s University Belfast. She is a member of the Centre for Children’s Rights and the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice (ICCJ) at QUB. She is the Principal Investigator of RADICAL, responsible for the management and delivery of the project. She has been involved in all parts of the study, particularly supporting the CYPAGs. She is leading on public engagement and dissemination activities.

Bronagh Byrne
Bronagh Byrne is a Professor of Disability and Children’s Rights. She is the Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights in Queen’s University Belfast. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, Bronagh was responsible for carrying out and analysing narrative interviews with children and young people with disabilities.

Claire Cassidy
Claire Cassidy is a Professor of Education in the Strathclyde Institute of Education in the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, Claire was responsible for conducting philosophical workshops with children and young people. She led in the development of theory of dis/respect.

Mary-Louise Corr
Mary-Louise Corr is a Senior Lecture in Criminology in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast. She’s a member of the Centre for Children’s Rights and the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, Mary-Louise led the delivery of the dialogue hubs and the narrative interviews, conducting fieldwork and ensuring consistency of approach in the research with specific subgroups of children and young people. She was responsible for carrying out and analysing narrative interviews with children and young people in conflict with the law.

Montserrat Fargas-Malet
Montserrat Fargas-Malet (Montse) is a Research Fellow in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work and a member of the Centre for Children’s Rights at Queen’s University Belfast. She was the lead researcher in the RADICAL project, being involved in all aspects of the project and leading the work with the Scouts CYPAG.

Amy Hanna
Amy Hanna is a Lecturer in Children’s Studies at the University of Galway. She was instrumental in the development of the RADICAL project proposal and in obtaining the funding from the ESRC. She has been involved in the project in an advisory capacity.

Laura Lundy
Laura Lundy is Professor Emerita of Children’s Rights in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work in Queen’s University Belfast and Professor of Law at University College Cork. She is former Co-Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, Laura led on the development of the Children and Young People’s Advisory Groups and on the international impact activities.

Alison MacKenzie
Alison MacKenzie is a Professor of Education in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast. She is a member of the Centre for Children’s Rights and the Centre for Inclusion, Transformation and Equality at QUB. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, she assisted in the delivery of the philosophy workshops with children and young people and theory development. She also led on a major systematic literature review on respect and children and young people.

Gail Neill
Gail Neill is a Lecturer in Community Youth Work in the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences at Ulster University. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, Gail was responsible for carrying out and analysing narrative interviews with LGBTQ children and young people. She also led the blog writing workshops and outputs.

Dirk Schubotz
Dirk Schubotz is Professor of Youth and Social Policy in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast. He is the Director of the annual Young Life and Times (YLT) survey, a member of ARK (Northern Ireland’s Social Policy Hub) and the Centre for Children’s Rights. Among other activities in the RADICAL project, Dirk was responsible for the development, distribution and analysis of the YLT and KLT (Kids Life and Times) surveys. He worked closely with the CYPAGs in the design of the survey questions.
