Engr. John Michael "JM" Ortega graduated from ICCT Colleges Cainta Rizal in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering. In April 2017, he aced the ECE and ECT Board exams. After serving as a college professor (academe) for two years, he made the decision to switch to fieldwork in the telecoms sector. His first position was two years as a Network Operations Engineer (NOC Engineer) at PHILCOMSAT. He developed and deployed working Linux and Windows Server systems, as well as LAN, WLAN, and WAN routing protocols like BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and Inter VLAN. built and designed many KU and C-band VSAT networks, ranging from hub to distant. During his time as a NOC engineer, he was able to pass Cisco Certification for R&S in February 2019. He also became a part-timer for Telecom Plaza Properties Management Inc. TPPMI as Operations and Maintenance Engineer for 1 year and 5 months where he developed work scope for contracted projects, analyzing received quotes and recommending preferred vendors. ∙ Supervision of civil works. ∙ Conducted cost estimates and performed preventive maintenance of FDAS, CCTV, Elevators, Plumbing, Electrical, and Cooling system. After 2 years at Philcomsat as NOC Engineer he resigned and change company. He was hired as Sr. Network and Voice Engineer in Nippon Telephony and Telegraphy (NTT) for half a year and decided to go back to Philcomsat as a NOC Supervisor. He handled engineers for the project implementation of UNDP Project a 3000 VSAT project. Later on, he led again for another telecommunication project for a covid relief and internet connectivity for geographical disadvantage areas 750 sites. As a NOC Supervisor for 4 years, he became a part-time college professor at the University of Rizal System URS for six months.
