-Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents , Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson (2020). Isabel Wilkerson argues that the United States has a caste system that has shaped racism since its inception. The book describes the caste system as a society-wide system of stratification that includes hierarchy, exclusion, inclusion, and purity. and Warmth of Other Suns (same author, 2010 ) Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of Black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life.
-White Fragility, Robin Diangelo, (2018). The New York Times best-selling book exploring the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. White fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent any meaningful cross-racial dialogue. In this in-depth exploration, DiAngelo examines how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively.
-How to Be an Antiracist, Ibram X. Kendi (2019) Nonfiction book by American author and historian Ibram X. Kendi, which combines social commentary and memoir. The book discusses concepts of racism and Kendi's proposals for anti-racist individual actions and systemic changes.

-13TH (2017 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature).Explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation's prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans.
-Rustin (Colman Domingo 2024 Academy Award nominee for Best Actor in a Leading Role) The architect of 1963's momentous March on Washington, Bayard Rustin was one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known. He challenged authority, never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired. And he did not back down.
-Bobi Wine: the People's President (2024 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature)Ugandan opposition leader, activist and musical star Bobi Wine uses his music to fight the regime led by Yoweri Museveni, who's led the country for 35 years, and runs in the 2021 presidential election
-Origin-(2023) Ava DuVernay movie based on the book Caste: The Origins of our Discontents. It deals with recent events and attempts to provide a birds-eye view of racism in America as part of a bigger picture related to caste.
-Refuge (2021) https://www.refugemovie.com/ REFUGE is an award-winning feature-length documentary that follows a leader in a white nationalist hate group who finds healing from the people he once hated - a Muslim heart doctor and his town of refugees. Ultimately, REFUGE uncovers what is possible when we leave the security of our tribes and what is at stake for our country if we don’t.
-I am Not your Negro-(2016) In 1979, James Baldwin wrote a letter to his literary agent describing his next project, "Remember This House." The book was to be a revolutionary, personal account of the lives and assassinations of three of his close friends: Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. At the time of Baldwin's death in 1987, he left behind only 30 completed pages of this manuscript. Filmmaker Raoul Peck envisions the book James Baldwin never finished.
-Selma (2014) In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground in the fight for suffrage. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated with President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
-The Sisters of Selma: Bearing Witness for Change (2007) https://www.avila.edu/avila-archives/sisters-of-selma/Martin Luther King, Jr., these women spoke on behalf of the silenced when many church leaders were reluctant to address the treatment of blacks in the United States. This documentary, Sisters of Selma: Bearing Witness for Change, is a powerful retelling of the nuns' courage and dedication in serving the dear neighbor.
-The Hate You Give -The Hate U Give (2017) is a critically acclaimed coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of racism and police brutality. It follows 16-year-old Starr Carter as she navigates two contrasting worlds: the poor Black neighborhood where she lives and the white prep school where she studies.
The Butler -2013 Loosely based on the real life of Eugene Allen, who worked in the White House for decades, the film stars Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, an African-American who is a witness of notable political and social events of the 20th century during his 34-year tenure serving as a White House
The Help -2011 In 1960s Mississippi, Southern society girl Skeeter (Emma Stone) returns from college with dreams of being a writer. She turns her small town on its ear by choosing to interview the Black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent white families. Only Aibileen (Viola Davis), the housekeeper of Skeeter's best friend, will talk at first. But as the pair continue the collaboration, more women decide to come forward, and as it turns out, they have quite a lot to say.
-Upstream, Downriver. (2022) https://www.newday.com/films/upstream-downriver Upstream, Downriver takes viewers into the heart of the battle for water justice. Powerful stories with frontline community activists are interwoven with historical context about landmark regulations that significantly reduced water pollution in the U.S. but failed to serve disadvantaged communities that are hardest hit by today’s climate crisis.
