Hafrashat Challah
The Women's Mitzvot of Hafrashat Challah, refers to separating a portion of dough from bread before baking it. This commandment comes from Numbers 15:20, which says that when making bread a portion of dough should be set aside for the kohen (priest).
"Bread is Divine Magic - it transforms basic elements of life into a mouthwatering delicious, aromatic substance that nourishes both the body and the soul. When mixed with love and intention by the Jewish woman for her family, it brings blessing and protection to her husband and her household and nourishes all who partake of its wonder. It is combined with thoughtfulness, love, singing, dancing, praying, giving charity and sharing our heartfelt prayers with G-d who blesses our efforts to produce the magic on both physical and spiritual levels. Eating this divinely infused bread enables us to bring the Divine into the meal and into the week."
