We are pleased to invite you to the next AI So-Go-Chi Seminar by Dr. Emeric Alexander Neufeld, currently a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow (Summer Program) at ReaLearn, hosted by Associate Professor Teeradaj Racharak.
Title
From Safety to Compliance: Teaching AI Legal and Ethical Behaviour
Abstract
We will discuss an aspect of trustworthy AI: the compliance of agents to legal, ethical, and social norms. Reasoning about norms is characterized by complex and nuanced dynamics, and learning compliant behaviour presents challenges beyond what is usually faced while enforcing, e.g., safety standards. In this talk we look specifically at reinforcement learning (RL) --- a powerful machine learning technique for learning optimal behaviour --- and how tools for enforcing safety can be adapted to accommodate legal, ethical, and social norms. In particular, we explore how formal safety specifications can be used to model potentially conflicting norms with varying priorities, in large stochastic environments, by leveraging multi objective and deep RL.
