Somewhere under Berlin
"Report," barked a tall figure, who was focused on a map of the world that took up an entire wall.
"Sir, we have located the temple in Ceylon..." replied a younger man, who fidgeted and wiped his brow as he spoke.
"And? The artifact?" The tall figure turned around, and stared down his guest. "Speak, now."
"Commander, we found the artifact. Well, we found where it was. And we know where it is, but..." the Commander cut off his guest, rushing forward and throwing him against the wall behind him.
"You mean to tell me your team has lost this holy relic? Do you know what will happen to the Reich if the British or the Americans retrieve this weapon? It will be the end for us." The Commander released his guest, who tumbled to the floor. Retreating to his desk, he tried to calm himself, asking, "Where is the weapon now?"
"Some archaeologist has it. He took it from the temple. Someone named Indiana Jones. But we're on his trail now and it will soon be back in our hands. Besides, we have other leads as well..."
June 20, 1939
Trincomalee, Ceylon
"Dr. Jones, what exactly is this thing?" asked Jim, peering over Indy's shoulder to look at the bundle that held the sword they had found.
"It's an ancient sword. I can't tell exactly how old, but if I had to guess it's well over a thousand years old. Maybe even two or three. We can learn more from a friend of mine in town. He's more of an expert than me on this part of the world." They had come to a small dwelling on the outskirts of Trincomalee. After they knocked on the door, a small man appeared, beckoning the pair in with a smile.
"Good to see you again, Indy," said the man with a smile showcasing few teeth. "What brings you here? I assume it is not simply a social visit." The man retreated to the kitchen to prepare something, bidding Indy to continue.
"We found something in the jungle. A hidden temple, tucked away out of sight. But we didn't find it first. The Germans are here, raiding the temple..." responded Indy, looking forlorn thinking of the other relics they had no time to save from the Nazis grasp.
"Now why would the Germans be here, raiding temples? There's something else, isn't there?" replied their host as he returned from the kitchen with a tray of tea in hand.
"Well, yes. We found this." Indy showed the man the sword they had found in the temple, and the man froze. He dropped the tray, the dishes shattering on impact.
"This... This is impossible. Do you know what this is?" The man carefully took the blade from Indy, as if it could break just by his touch.
"No, that's why I came to you. I know it's old, but I don't see why the Germans would want it."
The man's eyes grew wide, and his demeanor was suddenly stern and serious. "Because this blade was made by the Goddess Kali, many thousands of years ago. The temple you found was dedicated to her, and her blade was stored there when she, along with the other gods, disappeared." Indy and Jim looked at each other, both a little unsure about this, before turning back to their host.
"So you're telling me this is a magic sword? That's crazy!" said Jim, shaking his head. "It's nonsense. There's no way..."
Jim's sentence was cut short by their small host pulling the blade from its sheath, which caused a flash of light to emanate through the room. The blade looked as sharp as one freshly forged, and shined the color of fresh blood. Amidst the light, Indy and Jim could see the image of a four armed warrior. She had four arms, and held a severed head in one.
"This blade is a mythical relic. The Germans were looking for it, and it would give them immense power. Not enough by itself to conquer the world, but if they found the others..." As their host sheathed the weapon, Jim and Indy recovered their breath. They hadn't noticed, but they had held their breath the whole time the sword was unsheathed.
"What do you mean the others?" replied Indy, still a bit shaken by what he'd just seen. "Are you saying there are other relics like this?"
"If there weren't, I don't believe the Germans would be willing to make incursions like this into British territory." The man handed the blade back to Indy. "You have to get this away from here. To the British, or the Americans. Anyone who will keep it out of the hands of Hitler and his Reich."
"We'll head to London as fast as we can, and I'll get in contact with Washington. I have some colleagues at the Smithsonian. Thank you, old friend. Stay safe." shaking their host's hand, Indy and Jim were ushered out into the street before any more words could be said. "Well, guess it's time to find a ride."
Author's Note:
With this story, I wanted to try and move the plot along faster than it had gone in my previous installment. I wanted to give some more background into what the temple had inside it that the Germans want, and also hint that there more more hidden artifacts that were yet to be found. I think I could have done a better job with the pacing of the story, but I was trying to still capture the Indiana Jones aspect of this story while still having some strings laid for future stories that did not feature him, as well as highlighting actual aspects of Indian myth such as Kali's sword. I had some issues finding a relevant picture for this story, so I went with an image that depicts Kali wielding her sword. I may change this in revisions, or I might add a description into the story that conjures the image I provided. I don't plan to directly continue this story line in my next story, I think I will focus instead on the Germans, and the other relics they find in the years after Indy steals the sword from them. I do plan to throw in a couple references to his adventures in this alternate timeline however.
Revision Note:
I have decided to simply continue Indy's adventure for my next two stories. I may still have a time jump between this one and the next, and I will still continue to develop the Nazi villain. I will also alter the intro to reflect this change for my story,
