I became a NETA-certified Personal Trainer during my college years as a way to pursue my passion for empowering others by educating them on proper strength and nutrition protocols. While completing my degree in Education, I worked as a Personal Trainer and Nutritional Coach for UW-Stout. During that time, I also explored the world of bodybuilding as a figure competitor. I fell in love with the challenge of pushing my body to its limits and the science behind achieving my ideal physique through nutrition and training.
After graduating from college, I began my career as a public educator. I continued pursuing my passion for fitness and nutrition by working as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor (shoutout to my Butts and Guts ladies!) during evenings and weekends.
Then, I had kids - three of them. I remember waking up at 4 a.m. every morning to pump for my babies, getting to the gym by 5 a.m., starting my teaching day at 7 a.m., and arriving home by 4:30 p.m. I tried to squeeze in quality time with my kids while making dinner, responding to parent emails, prepping lunches, washing bottles, and planning lessons. It was just too much. For the first time in my adult life, my diligent fitness and nutrition routine fell by the wayside as I focused on catching up with... life. I realized I couldn’t be everything to everyone without neglecting my own needs.
I gained weight rapidly, and in desperation, I tried combating it by starving myself. I lost all my hard-earned lean muscle mass and developed a "skinny fat" appearance. I continuously fluctuated between pant sizes, surviving on energy drinks, protein bars, and late-night binge sessions. In my mind, being the best wife, mom, teacher, and friend took precedence over meal prepping and gym time. After all, setting aside time to meal prep and work out would have been "selfish."
Then COVID happened. We moved. I transitioned to a part-time position mentoring teachers while teaching virtually. I also joined a new gym - a gym with childcare. I immediately rediscovered my passion for lifting, and it was life-changing. I threw myself back into researching nutrition and implemented a structured heavy-lifting protocol. The excess body fat I had carried for years melted away, and my lean muscle mass became visible again. I felt alive. I realized it was time to prioritize myself and my needs so I could be the best version of me.
