Access to light is one of the most important factors for office workers. Though daylight penetration often linked with cost saving on electricity, it is also evident than it helps increasing the workers’ performance as having visual comfort. It is found that typical government office building lacks in designing for an energy efficient building with highly glazed windows without shading devices which causes glare for the occupants while internal part of the building has less or no access to daylight which causes artificial lighting to be used the whole day. Hence, this study aims to design an energy efficient government office building by implementing shading devices which utilizing the usage of daylighting into the building. The simulation done to study daylight conditions in buildings using VELUX Daylight Visualizer further helps to determine the most suitable types of shading devices to be implemented for the building envelop.
