Back in my early days of predator calling, I would sneak a battery-powered stereo - I think we called them a boom box - out of the house to use in my efforts to call up a coyote. The only requirement for this not-so-portable calling system was that it could play a bootleg copy of rabbit in distress sounds on a cassette tape.

Calling too often tends to go hand in hand with calling too much and calling too loud. You rarely have one without the other. But calling too often is a sin in and of itself. Like calling too loud, calling too often can be an unnatural calling presentation. Making long, and seemingly endless calls, one right after the other is not a natural scenario.

That way I can be on my gun and ready for the approach rather than being caught off guard with a coyote charging in while I have a call to my mouth. Also, if a coyote enters the field in the middle of your calling routine, he will typically pinpoint you immediately if you are using mouth calls. Calling less often makes him hunt you harder, coming further into your calling setup.

FOXPRO is excited to introduce a new line of diaphragm predator calls. The versatility that diaphragm calls have allows you to quickly let out a coyote howl, pup distress, or animal distress on your stand. These mouth calls are easy to use and have great volume capabilities. Each call in this new line is specifically made for a target sound. The Cottontail mouth call is tuned for realistic cottontail and rabbit distress. This mouth call is proudly made in the USA.

Predator hunting is both a thrill and a unique challenge. Calling to animals that have the keenest senses on the planet requires patience and woodsmanship. Here are a few calling tips we've assembled to help increase your predator calling techniques.

that everyone should have the opportunity to hunt and experience the great outdoors, so we make products that everyone can afford. As hunters, we demand a lot from our gear and cutting corners isn't an option. To ensure quality and performance, we build, tune, and test each call one at a time by hand at our shop in Memphis, TN.

Considered unorthodox by some deer hunters, a fawn in distress call can sometimes save the day by drawing in a concerned doe with a big buck in tow. Made in the USA, the machined acrylic housed reed package takes very little air pressure to operate. As a bonus feature, blow harder and the call doubles as a jack rabbit in distress.

Clay has been a Top Ten finisher in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP COYOTE CALLING CONTEST (WCCCC) the last two years running. He has hunted coyotes all over the US. In this podcast, Clay talks in detail about coyote calling techniques in different areas of the US, how to call them, how to set up, and the advantages of using FoxPro electronic calls vs. mouth calls.

That does not look like a good list to me,I would take all of the Crow sounds that FoxPro has but none of those bird sounds .The only bird sounds, that work for me,(stand alone no crow sounds inbedded ) are the hawk screams, and owl sounds. The Raven duet will work sometimes,if you have ravens around. Crows are very territorial, thats why other crow sounds work so well. Some of the bird sounds could work in run and hunting in the summer when crows are raiding song bird nests, but I just use crow distress sounds with hawk and owl sounds.

Trip, Depending on the type of crow hunting you are doing (run & gun, field shooting or flyway shooting) also is a major factor on what calls to choose from. Some calls you can use in all three types of gunning. For example: In run & gun where you move around a lot I would recomend my fighting call, distress call of a baby crow, excited crow call and distress call of an adult crow. The crows will come into these calls on the double! For field types of crow hunting I would recomend my come here call and recognition call, this will bring the birds in leisurly. For flyway hunting the fighting call is a proven crow killer, you can see me using all of the differen't fight calls in the two dvd's that I made over the past 9 years. One is called "Crow Shooting" and the other is called "The Art of Crow Hunting" both are sold right here at CrowMart the store! Look under Educational Material to find them. If you are a run & gunner it sure can't hurt to learn to use a hand call very well! CrowMart has some great deals, by that I mean that they have some very good hand calls for sale. Mincey, Gibson and Mallardtone to name a few. They also have a package deal where you can buy one of there hand calls and it comes with an instructional cd so you can learn what the differen't calls mean to the crows! Bob A.

If you are hunting coyotes in an area with turkeys and the coyotes are not responding to the rabbit, mouse, or fawn in distress calls; try talking turkey. As a long time year-round turkey hunter it is most annoying at how often coyotes come in and come in close looking for a turkey dinner. Coyotes have investigated turkey calling during all seasons, spring, summer, fall and winter.

On December 31st the last day of Wisconsin turkey fall season the sub-zero temperatures were too cold for Vic, the turkey dog to hunt. Sadly, he had to stay home while I went hunting. Setting up for cold calling takes on a whole new dimension.

If you are a coyote hunter take a turkey call out with you and see what happens, you may just be pleasantly surprised. And we turkey hunters will be grateful one less coyote is looking for a turkey dinner. Good luck.

I've seen videos online of hunters making predator calls from those cheap dog toys that squeak, so I made one myself and had great results. The squeaky noise that these dog toys make are almost identical to the noise a rabbit or other small mammal in distress makes. This of course makes complete since why it is so popular with dogs and other predators, such as coyotes.

The plastic component will make slightly different sounds depending which way the air is going through it and how fast. I find that I get best results by changing it up a bit. For example, using a combination of one hand to muffle the noise and anything I can do to change the volume, rhythm, and sound itself can be effective. You can also find some examples of rabbit in distress calls online, which are very helpful.

The Predator Call pack includes 3 diaphragm mouth coyote calls which consist of the Predator Tactics Coyote Howler Call, Pup Distress Call & Rabbit Distress Call. The included predator calls are capable of producing many lifelike sounds that will bring ion predators all season long. Details & calling tips on each predator call are listed below.

Whether you are managing wildlife or tricking some of the slyest animals to ever run on four paws, Primos Predator Calls will get the job done, and get it done right. We break down predator calling in three stages: howling, prey distress, and vocalizations. Sounds easy, but we have decades of developing and building products to help you make predators prey. The Dogg Catcher 2 Electronic Predator Call has 12 Proven Sounds by Randy Anderson pre-programmed expert predator calling sequences. Pre-programmed calling sequences are created by a team of Primos Predator hunting experts using our very own predator calls.

Dawn came quickly, frost hanging on the sagebrush and growing in my beard. At the first traces of shooting light, I pressed the button that activated the Primos Alpha Dogg electronic call placed 50 yards away down the slope, sending a series of locator howls drifting down the draw. To my delight, coyotes lit up in all directions, three different groups cutting the air apart with yips, howls, and barks.

The good news is that Morris doesn't believe any coyote is uncallable. But he rarely uses traditional distress calls any more, opting instead to use various coyote vocalizations. He believes that successful callers should become proficient with three tools.

"You can't go fishing with just one lure," he said. "I use a FoxPro, a diaphragm mouth call, and a hand howler every time. I'm trying to sound like multiple coyotes, and I accomplish it with multiple calls."

Morris is partial to non-aggressive male coyote howls and female yodels, and he pointed out the importance of understanding not only the rut, but also the gestation period and following pup-raising months. Typically, peak breeding occurs in February, followed by a 62-day gestation. For conversation's sake, let's say most pups are born mid-April, and they stay in the den for a month or more.

"I start off with electronic male coyote howls," he said. "Then a female yodel, then a non-aggressive diaphragm howl. A few minutes later, I'll do a distress call, grey fox, something in distress. I go from that into coyote pup distress, pup screams, and finally pup death howls. The entire sequence takes about 12 to 15 minutes. I tell you what, that series triggers something in a coyote that seems to just make them come take a look."

I also asked Morris about his favorite calls. He's on FoxPro's pro staff, so clearly he leans on them heavily. He was candid in admitting that there are many good electronic calls on the market today but was staunch in maintaining that FoxPro has them all soundly beat in one critical area: coyote vocalizations. FoxPro's "Platinum Grey Fox" is a high-pitched sound that cuts through wind well, is particularly frantic sounding, and works really effectively.

For hand calls, I was interested to hear that Morris really likes hand-turned wood calls made in my home state of Utah by Kerry Carver, who also just introduced a rubber call that is "the most amazing call" Morris has ever used.

Morris offered a parting tip for beginners: "When you're starting out, don't be afraid to push the button, to blow the call. Try various sounds. It may not work today, but down the road you'll find a sound that will work, and it'll be dynamite."

These pictured (above) are handmade by Kerry Carver of Ephraim, Utah, and, according to Al Morris, work magic on electronic call-wise coyotes. Impressively, Carver sells his works of art at workingman prices: ranging from $20 to $40.
