Extraction of active ingredients by maceration (Clove ground into powder)
This practical work report (University of Blida-1, Process Engineering) compares the effectiveness of infusion, decoction, and maceration for the extraction of active ingredients (mint, ginger, clove). The study analyzes the mass yields obtained—notably 85.8% for mint by infusion—while evaluating the impact of each process on the stability of the compounds and the nature of the plant material. This work provides a pedagogical basis for pharmacognosy and industrial pharmacy.
Pharmaceutical issues with Diabenil 5 mg
This report analyzes the production challenges of Diabenil 5 mg (glibenclamide), an oral antidiabetic drug whose low solubility leads to risks of severe hypoglycemia. After detailing the manufacturing steps (granulation and compression), the study proposes technical solutions to improve treatment safety. Optimization relies in particular on micronization and the use of solubilizing agents, aiming to ensure a more stable and controlled release of the active ingredient.
Phytochemical screening of plant extracts
This report details the phytochemical screening of ginger and cinnamon to identify their secondary metabolites. Using colorimetric tests, the study reveals a high phenol and saponin content in cinnamon, while ginger stands out for its terpenoids and proteins. By analyzing the impact of extraction methods (infusion, decoction, maceration) on yield, this work establishes a technical basis for evaluating the therapeutic potential of these extracts in industrial pharmaceutical applications.
Liquid-liquid extraction
This practical work analyzes the liquid-liquid extraction of benzoic acid from water to sunflower oil. Using volumetric titration with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), the study determines the partition coefficient (K) and compares the efficiency of a single extraction to that of multiple extractions. The results, supported by yield calculations (R_1 and R_2), confirm that a fractional process maximizes solute recovery, thus validating theoretical mass transfer models in chemical engineering.
Determination of the liquid-liquid phase diagram
This technical report from the University of Blida-1 (Process Engineering) presents the thermodynamic characterization of the ternary water-ethanol-trichloroethylene (TCE) system. Using the cloud point method, the study experimentally establishes the miscibility curve and delineates the homogeneous and heterogeneous phase domains. Analysis of mass data allows for the construction of the liquid-liquid phase diagram, thus illustrating the fundamental principles of phase equilibrium applied to solvent extraction and industrial purification.
