FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I enroll?

You will enroll your student with the school division in which you live. You can also register using the REGISTRATION link above. Registration does not ensure enrollment. School divisions approve or deny requests based on the eligibility criteria. If you would like to learn more about the specific offering for your division, send an inquiry using the CONTACT US form.

Will teachers from my school be teaching my online classes?

No, courses are taught by Virginia-licensed teachers outside of your school division.

My student is identified (IEP, 504, Gifted, ELL, etc). How will he or she be served in this setting?

Student needs will be met on a case-by-case basis in partnership between the local school and the virtual provider

Is the start date for Academy students the same as for in person students?

The start date for fully virtual students varies by the provider.

Imagine Learning and Edmentum students will have the same start date as the in-person school division.

Students enrolled with VAVA powered by Stride, K12 OR Virtual Virginia will have different start dates. Students follow a separate academic calendar with these providers.

Will my instruction be synchronous, asynchronous, or a mixture of both?

This answer depends on student grade level and the provider chosen by your division. Contact your school division of residence or CONTACT US above to learn more.

If I was homeschooled in the past, can I participate?

Yes. Notify your school division of residence that you would like to enroll in the Academy. This option eliminates the need to complete homeschool paperwork, as students in R7VA are enrolled directly with their school district.

Can I play sports for my division if I participate in the Academy?

This is a division decision and will be determined by your local school board.

Do I need to have my own computer?

Your school division of residence can provide an electronic device if needed.

How will I take my Standard of Learning (SOL) test?

If you are enrolled in a course that requires a SOL test, you will complete that assessment at your local school of residence. Your school will notify you of specific information for completion closer to test day. Visit the VDOE website for more information on SOL courses: https://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/index.shtml

Do I have to have internet access?

Yes, reliable internet access is required.

What is the attendance policy?

The Code of Virginia’s policy on educational attendance (§22.1-254) applies for online learning and compulsory school attendance is required by law. In the virtual learning environment established by the Region VII Virtual Academy, attendance is defined as:

Online instruction provider may set forth additional attendance expectations.

If a student is not meeting expectations, he or she may be asked to return in person.

I have difficulty accessing my classes. Who do I contact?

Contact your child's virtual teacher first. If that does not solve your issue, submit a "Contact Us" form above or email your local school contact.
